Even though the PlayStation 5’s DualSense controller is pretty great, and I really love the new Create button on it, your old DualShock 4 isn’t useless. In fact, you can easily use the PS4 controller with your PS5 to play PS4 titles on your new console. That’s pretty great, but sometimes, you might find that your PlayStation 4 DualShock controller isn’t connecting with your PS5. If that’s happening to you as well, there’s a very easy fix. Here’s how to fix PS4 controller not connecting with PlayStation 5.
PS4 Controller Connection Issues with PS5 (Fixed)
Even though I play a lot of the new PS5 titles, some of the games I enjoy playing with friends are made for the PS4. Things like Tekken 7, Mortal Kombat, and Cricket 19 are all PS4 games. That means I can easily connect a PS4 controller to the PS5 and use it to play local multiplayer games on PlayStation with friends. Plus, you can install PS4 games on an external hard disk on PS5 which is great to save storage.
However, recently I came across an issue where the PS4 DualShock would just not connect to my PS5. Pressing the PS button simply flashes the light strip white for a bit before the controller turned off again. I tried charging it, and using a USB cable to connect it to the PS5 but to no avail.
In this article I will tell you how to solve this problem easily, so read on.
Fix PS4 Controller not Connecting with PlayStation 5
If your old DualShock 4 isn’t connecting with your PS5, here’s what you need to do.
- While your PS4 controller is off, press the PS button and the ‘share’ button until the light bar flashes white. This puts the DualShock 4 in pairing mode and it’s basically how you connect PS4 controller with Android, iPhone, and other devices as well.
- On your PS5, go to Settings -> Accessories.
- In the General tab, go to ‘Bluetooth Accessories’.
- You will see ‘Wireless Controller’ under the ‘Accessories Found’ section. Just select it to pair the controller with your PlayStation 5.
You can now select the user that is using the DualShock 4 controller and start playing local multiplayer games on your PlayStation 5 without two PS5 controllers.
Which Games Support PS4 Controller on PS5
Since the new DualSense controller is miles ahead of the PS4 DualShock controller, you can’t play PS5 games with the old PS4 controller. However, every PS4 game that you have installed on your PS5 can be played with the PS4 controller without any issues.
Connect PS4 Controller to PS5 and Play Local Multiplayer Games
Most of the time, you can easily connect the DualShock 4 with the PlayStation 5 and play your favourite games without a hassle. However, sometimes things do mess up a bit, making it difficult for the controller to pair with your console.
Now that you know how to fix this seemingly tiny, but really annoying problem, go ahead and play all your favourite PlayStation 4 games in local multiplayer mode with your friends.
