How to Beat the Blackgaol Knight in Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree

When you start Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree, you can discover a location where an optional boss named Blackgaol Knight resides. While you can ignore this boss and go on with your work through the other bosses in Shadow Realm, it is wise to fight and defeat the Blackgoal Knight. And if you have encountered this boss already, you might be in a situation where you can’t beat it. So, how do you defeat the Blackgaol Knight in Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree? Well, let’s talk about that.

Blackgaol Knight Location in Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtre

To track the Elden Ring Blackgaol Knight, you must first travel through the Scorched Ruins to activate the Sorched Ruins Site of Grace. Once you reach that area, look west and start riding. You’ll start seeing dead trees and ruins around you, with bird enemies sitting on top of the ruins.

You are at the right place if you keep following the area and seeing the long, blue enemies jutting from the ground. Ride a little farther, and you’ll see the Western Nameless Mausoleum, where Blackgaol Knight resides in the Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree.

Blackgaol Knight Weaknesses in Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree

Like most Elden Ring bosses, Blackgaol Knight comes with weaknesses. Fortunately, unlike standard enemies in Elden Ring, you can quickly remove Blackgaol Knight. Here are his weaknesses:

  • Weak to Bleed: Like most enemies in Elden Ring, bleeding is still the best damage you can cause to enemies. Hence, if you have a bleed weapon and sufficient points in Arcane and Dexterity, you can consider using it to kill the enemy.
  • Weak to physical damage: Blackgaol knight is weak to standard physical damage, with heavier weapons even interrupting him to make his attacks. Hence, attack as much as you can whenever you get an opening.
  • Weak to magic weapons: Blackgaol Knight is specifically weak to magic weapons. However, avoid using spells, as they can dodge and ignore those spellcasts.

How To Defeat Blackgaol Knight in Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree

Defeat Blackgaol Knight

Now that we know where to find the boss and his weaknesses, we must remove him for good. Here’s how to defeat the Blackgoal Knight in Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree:

  • Rush in when they load their crossbow: The Blackgaol Knight habitually pulls out a crossbow and shoots at you from a distance. Sometimes, he’ll also shoot fire arrows at you. When he does that, dodge sideways. Alternatively, you can dash towards and immediately attack him to stop him from shooting.
  • Strength is your best buddy: Blackgaol Knight takes a lot of poise damage from continuous hits. This is even better when you hit him with two-strength weapons and stun-lock him. Hence, take some charge and keep hitting him.
  • Look out for safe rolls: Almost every slash from Blackgaol Knight’s greatsword is invincible on rolls. If you roll at the right time, you’ll ignore the damage. It doesn’t matter which way you roll; roll.
  • Careful about his two-handed attack: The Blackgaol Knight occasionally makes a two-handed attack, sending a gust of slash towards you, unlocking you for a few seconds. He will then dash in with the greatsword, doing a 360 slash and killing you. Try to avoid it by dodging away from the attack.

If you keep these things in mind and carefully attack the enemy, you’ll take him out in no time. Furthermore, since you cannot summon Spirit Ash in this fight, it is about skill and patience.

Blackgaol Knight Boss Fight Rewards

Fortunately, all this pain and suffering is worth it in the end. Beating the Blackgaol Knight in the Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree rewards you with a lot of stuff. For starters, his Greatsword of Solitude is now yours to keep. This is an excellent B-scale Strength weapon that does 120 base damage. Do note that you’ll need 27 strength and 13 skills to use it.

Outside of that, you get the entirety of the Solitude armor set worn by the Blackgaol Knight. This is a good armor that helps protect against physical damage. Furthermore, you’ll get two new emotes, Ring of Miquella and The Ring.

And that’s how you beat the Blackgaol Knight in Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree. Once you’re done here, move on to all other Elden Ring DLC bosses. Furthermore, if you like the Solitude armor set, check out the best Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree armor.
