Dragon Ball Daima is the fifth installment of Akira Toriyama’s Dragon Ball universe. The series has finally made its debut, and for the most part, everyone is super excited to dive back into the universe of Dragon Ball. The series, which was the last project Toriyama worked on before his death, will see Goku and his friends de-aging and becoming children. It’s a unique take on the story, but since the Dragon Ball Daima series will be canon, everyone wonders when exactly Daima takes place in the timeline. Well, here’s all you need to know about it.
Spoiler Warning: This post may include spoilers for Dragon Ball Daima and the overall DB universe. Proceed with caution.
Where Does Daima Fit In The Dragon Ball Universe?
Daima is the sequel to the Dragon Ball Z series and a prequel to Dragon Ball Super.
Dragon Ball’s timeline is already incredibly confusing, and well, Daima doesn’t make things any easier. In the series, some people, possibly from the Demon Realm, will turn Goku, Vegeta, and other popular characters into kids through a wish from Shenron.
Now, we know that this didn’t happen before Dragon Ball Z. That’s because, in the trailer, we can see these bad guys watching Majin Buu’s fight with the Saiyans from another world. So, it’s pretty clear that the events in Daima occur after Dragon Ball Z, specifically after Majin Buu’s defeat.
However, if we take the release order into consideration, we got Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods after DBZ, and after that, we got Ressurection F. Then, we got the Dragon Ball Super series, followed by two more movies, namely Dragon Ball Super: Broly and Dragon Ball Super: Superhero.
So, where exactly does Daima fit in after the DBZ series? We know that Battle of Gods, the first movie to be released after Z, takes place four years after Majin Buu’s defeat. Furthermore, the releases after Battle of Gods follow a linear pattern in the timeline.
The trailer of Daima made it pretty clear that Whis and Beerus, who were introduced in Battle of Gods, won’t be a part of Daima. So, this story unfolds before Goku and Vegeta fight Beerus and unlock the power of Super Saiyan God or Super Saiyan Blue.
Moreover, in the trailer, we can see the demons witnessing the Majin Buu’s battle. It means that they decide to de-age the Saiyans after Buu’s defeat. So, it’s pretty safe to conclude that Daima fits between Dragon Ball Z and Dragon Ball: Battle of Gods. In fact, Daima’s events are much closer to Dragon Ball Z than Battle of Gods – evident from the constant focus on Majin Buu in the trailers.
