In Deadpool 3, an Anchor Being is a person whose mere existence can help balance a timeline on which they reside.

When Wade Wilson was celebrating his birthday with his friends on Earth-100005, he was captured by the Time Variance Authority’s men. After regaining consciousness, Wade finds himself in front of Mr. Paradox, the Time Variance Authority’s corrupt agent. The duo converses briefly, and Mr. Paradox explains to Wade about the Sacred Timeline of the MCU. Later, he starts talking about Anchor Beings.

Mr. Paradox states that if the Anchor Being dies, the timeline also starts going downhill, and one day, it eventually dies. However, the timeline doesn’t die instantly; in fact, it takes several centuries for it to die through natural calamities. So, you could say that if a universe is a ship, it needs an anchor to stay stable in the ocean, that is, the cosmos.

Some of you might confuse these beings with the Nexus Being, but neither of the terms has any connection. Nexus Beings are those who can travel between different universes and make alterations to timelines.

Mr. Paradox shows Wade footage of Logan’s death and tells him that he was the Anchor Being of Earth-100005, and now that he is dead, this reality’s end is imminent. The villain created a machine called the Time Ripper, using which he could fast-forward the demise of Earth-100005. He also knew that Wade could stop him from fulfilling his desires. Paradox asked him to shift to Earth-616.

However, Wade knew that he would never meet his friends and girlfriend if he did the same. So, he travels to different realities in search of Wolverine’s variant, who could help him stop the villains from destroying Earth-100005. Eventually, he brings a drunk Wolverine to fight against the power-hungry villains.

Do Anchor Beings Exist in Marvel Comics

Well, there is no reference to Anchor Beings in comics and it seems that Kevin Feige and team conjured the term simply for the movie. However, Anchor Beings can play a significant role in upcoming Marvel movies like Avengers Secret Wars.
