A new season of Warzone is on the horizon in what will likely be the penultimate content update built around the game’s integration with Black Ops 6. Season 4 had a lukewarm reception as it didn’t deliver a ton in terms of new content. As such, fans will certainly be hoping that Season 5 has a lot more meat on its bones. So, if you’re interested in learning about what’s next for the Battle Royale, here’s everything to know about the Call of Duty: Warzone Season 5 update.
Warzone Season 5 Release Date
Warzone Season 5 will be released on Thursday, August 7, at 9:00 AM PT (12:00 PM ET/5:00 PM GMT). As always, the release date was revealed ahead of schedule via the Season 4 Battle Pass timer, before being confirmed by the official Call of Duty blog.
Warzone Season 5 New Content
Warzone Season 5 sees the long-awaited opening of Stadium, paired with excited new modes, events, and much more. With that said, here’s everything players can look forward to:
New Weapons

Four new weapons are joining the Warzone in Season 5:
- PML 5.56: Full-auto light machine gun. Fast rate of fire and high lethality offset by low mobility and hefty recoil.
- ABR A1: Three-round burst assault rifle. Good handling and power. Moderate recoil and range. Configurable to full auto.
- Boxing Gloves: Moderate damage. Fast attack speed. Long range.
- Gravemark .357 Revolver: Single-action revolver. High power and considerable range, limited by lower ammo count and segmented reload.
The PML 5.56 is basically the M249 LMG, a powerful, heavy, and clunky weapon that can decimate enemies but leaves players vulnerable due to its long reload times. Next up, we’ve got the latest iteration of AUG, called ABR A1. The classic Black Ops weapon arrives in Warzone as a power-packed three-round burst AR, which can be turned into a full-auto weapon by obtaining its conversion kit.
Available as part of the Operation Hell Ride Event, the Gravemark .357 Revolver is a classic single-action eight-shooter that hits extremely hard. However, players will need to contend with its slow fire rate and lack of range. Lastly, the new melee weapon in Season 5 is a standard, unassuming pair of Boxing Gloves. Put these on and get up close and personal with your enemies to do some serious damage without ever firing a bullet.
Verdansk Updates

Even since Verdansk’s return, seasonal updates have slowly re-introduced the map’s trademark features, such as its various bunkers and locked safes, as well as the moving train. In line with this pattern, Season 5 will finally see Stadium’s roof open up, allowing players to access its interiors.
As described in the Call of Duty blog, a clandestine military base is hidden within the Stadium. The extent of the threat remains unclear, though a weapon capable of large-scale destruction is expected to be unearthed within the vicinity. During the first week of Season 5, players will be able to take on a multi-stage contract that walks them through the process of opening up the roof. In the second week of Season 5, the venue’s roof will be open by default, allowing Operators to explore its interiors.
Satellite Hijack Contract
Satellite Hijack is a unique, limited-time contract that lets players crack open Stadium’s roof by following a few steps. The contract will only be available during the first full week of Season 5, and Activision have done their best to keep details about its objectives under wraps. However, it’s safe to assume that you’ll be calling down a laser beam from a satellite to turn the roof into rubble.
Securing a yet-to-be-revealed objective will give players a permanent reward, and we’ll be sure to add details once they’re confirmed.
New LTMs
Two limited-time modes will be added to Warzone in Season 5. Here’s what you can expect:
- Stadium Resurgence: Just like the name suggests, Stadium Resurgence takes the mode’s chaotic experience and applies it to the confines of the venue’s grounds and interiors. The biggest change to the formula is a 36-player cap to avoid overstuffing the Stadium, but aside from this, standard Resurgence rules apply.
- Deadline: Scheduled for the mid-season Reloaded update, Deadline deploys real players and bots into Verdansk, where the main objective is to rack up as many points as possible. The lowest-scoring teams are eliminated after each circle collapses, and the team with the most points is crowned the winner at the end. Points can be earned by killing enemies, completing contracts, looting supply drops, and spending cash at Buy Stations.
New Events
Warzone will welcome three new events during Season 5. These include:
- ’90s Action Heroes: Take it over the top and be the leading hero you’re meant to be in this Event that pays homage to action flicks. Earn the new Boxing Gloves melee weapon, a BlackCell Boxing Gloves weapon variant if you own BlackCell, plus other great rewards.
- Operation Hell Ride: Don’t get your wires crossed in this Event, challenging Operators to save the day from a ticking time bomb. Rewards include the Gravemark .357 Revolver
- Atomic Block Party: It’s time to commemorate everyone’s favorite chaotic battleground! Engage in a Nuketown-inspired event full of rewards.
Beyond the new weapons, map updates, and LTMs, Warzone Season 5 will bring a host of weapon balancing changes. These changes will likely shake up the meta, so be sure to keep up with our Warzone coverage to always stay in tune with the best guns.
