- The latest episode of the Call of Duty Podcast revealed some new details about Black Ops 7.
- In it, we confirmed that wall-running and Jetpacks will not return to BO7. The game will instead feature an "evolution of omnimovement."
- The podcast also confirmed that parts of the campaign will occur in a futuristic Japan setting.
We have received a sizable Black Ops 7 info dump via a new episode of the Call of Duty Podcast. The presentation featured a number of announcements tied to the upcoming title, including details on the game’s movement mechanics, its timeline and setting, and the debunking of a popular rumor.
The biggest reveal was bittersweet (depending on who you ask): Stephanie Snowden, the Senior Director of Communications at Activision, confirmed that wall-running and jetpacks will not be returning in B07. The announcement comes after data miners tapped into Black Ops 6’s files last month and unearthed references to the mechanics.
Videos of the futuristic movement in action surfaced shortly after, leading many players to believe that Treyarch might be gearing up to include it in Black Ops 7.
The podcast put these rumors to rest, with Snowden saying, “I can confirm no wall-running, no jetpacks, but it will feature an evolution of omnimovement. So boom, there you go.”
She provided further context, stating that B07 is set “30 years before Black Ops 3,” which might suggest that the sci-fi equipment doesn’t make sense timeline-wise. The pod provided no further information on the changes being introduced to omnimovement, so your guess is as good as mine.
On the subject of Black Ops 7’s campaign, we got confirmation that the story revolves around David Mason, who’ll be battling with “internal and external conflicts.” The campaign will also explore a futuristic Japan setting, a location that Call of Duty hasn’t fully explored yet.
Besides these details, Snowden shot down another popular rumor linked to the ‘wingsuit shot’ from the B07 reveal trailer. The shot in question displays operators deploying wingsuits over a sprawling location, leading to speculation that BO4’s Battle Royale map, Blackout, could be set for a return. You can file this one under the debunked section as well, as the location is now confirmed to be Avalon.
That rounds out all the new Black Ops 7 information, but we’ll hear plenty more about the game during an extended reveal event later in the summer. Are you looking forward to the game’s release? Be sure to let us know in the comments below.
