Sean Penn is one of the most celebrated actors, having blessed the community with several memorable characters. Sean Penn won the Best Supporting Actor for One Battle After Another, but Kieran Culkin stepped forward to take the award on his behalf. On stage, the actor jokingly said, ‘Sean Penn couldn’t be here this evening, or didn’t want to. So, I’ll be accepting the award on his behalf.’ Following the wins at the Oscars 2004 and 2009 for Best Actor for Mystic River and Milk, respectively, this is the third Academy Award of the actor’s career.
It seems One Battle After Another gave Penn one of the best roles, earning him a BAFTA, Actor Awards, and now an Oscar. However, he couldn’t make it to the big night because, reportedly, the actor is in Ukraine at the moment; the exact reason for his travel to the war-torn country remains unknown though.
Well, several previous reports suggest that Sean Penn has been constantly supportive of Ukraine since the Russian invasion in February 2022. He has frequently travelled to the country and has been in touch with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. Not only that, but Penn has also given one of his Oscars to the Ukrainian as a symbol of support.
