The first episode of The Penguin is here and I must say, the creators have outdone themselves. This show brings probably one of the best pilot episodes I have seen in a while. Picking up right after the end of The Batman, The Penguin moves forward to show us the aftermath of the floods caused by The Riddler and Oswald Cobblepot, trying to make the most out of it. However, this series name-dropped one of the most well-known serial killers in the DC franchise, The Hangman. Sofia Falcone Was The Hangman
The Hangman is a serial killer who appears in DC comics and is often regarded as one of the most fearsome and ruthless villains in Batman’s huge list of enemies. In the comics, she was freed from prison by her father when a serial killer named the Holiday Killer started to kill members of the Falcone family.
In the comics, it was revealed that the Holiday Killer was none other than Carmine Falcone’s son, Alberto who wanted to take his father’s empire for himself. However, the story is not that simple. After all of this, Sofia was still not able to save her father as he was killed by Two-Face, enraged by this, she tried to kill Two-Face but Catwoman came in the way and as a result of their fight, Sofia fell out of the penthouse window and got paralyzed.
It was later revealed that Sofia faked everything and turned into the serial killer named The Hangman who would kill Gotham PD officials using a noose after her father’s body went missing from the Gotham Police department. By the end of this story, Sofia tries to kill Two-Face but Batman saves him and as Batman battles Sofia, Two-Face shoots her in the head putting an end to The Hangman in DC comics.
What Is The Hangman’s Role in The Penguin?
In The Penguin series, the story has been greatly altered and we are told that Sofia was captured by Gotham police and sent to Arkham Asylum for rehabilitation. In this series, she is trying to find out about her missing brother, Alberto whom Penguin has killed. However, even though she suspects it, there is no proof that Oswald is the one responsible for the disappearance of Alberto. On top of that, Oswald with his new sidekick Victor, has successfully framed Maloni for this murder, and only time will tell what happens next. So stay tuned with us for further updates!
