The Superman movie is set to release in July, and while we are waiting for its release, there is a character I believe should be talked about more. Since the teaser and trailer of the movie were released, there have been discussions mainly revolving around David Corenswet, but today, we are here to talk about a new superhero making his debut. I’m talking about Metamorpho, and considering a lot of us don’t know much about him, let me tell you all about Metamorpho’s origin, powers, and the actor playing him in Superman.

Anthony Carrigan is playing Metamorpho in Superman 2025. Initially, Anthony auditioned to play Lex Luthor, but the role had already been given to Nicholas Hoult, so instead of Lex, he got to play Rex Mason/Metamorpho. Anthony Carrigan has already worked in multiple movies and shows, like Twisted Metal and Fatherhood, but playing this character is most definitely his breakout role.

What Is Metamorpho’s Origin in DC?

Metamorpho has a rather tragic origin story where he got his superpowers as a result of betrayal. He made his first appearance as Rex Mason in The Brave and the Bold #57 in 1965. In the comics, he was an adventurer and somewhat of a mercenary.

He was hired by Simon Stagg to find an ancient Egyptian relic called the Orb of Ra, which became the reason for Rex’s transformation. When he almost found the orb, he was betrayed by Java, the Neanderthal servant of Simon Stagg, and was exposed to radiation that mutated Mason’s body on a molecular level and turned him into Metamorpho.

Metamorpho’s powers are very unique and make him highly versatile. After his radiation exposure, his molecular structure changed in such a way that Metamorpho can turn himself into any element or compound on the periodic table. He can turn his body parts into different metals, gases, and even into acids, which I think is pretty cool.

On top of the above-mentioned powers, Metamorpho is also able to stretch or compress his body, much like Mister Fantastic, and can turn his body parts into tools, reshaping them completely. He also possesses superhuman strength and does not need food, water, or even oxygen to survive, which means he can even survive in space.

Is Metamorpho a Hero or a Villain?

For most of his comic run, Metamorpho has been a hero, however, he does not like the powers he has. Throughout his appearances in DC comics, he has been looking for a cure to get back to normal and wants to get rid of the powers he received unwillingly. This is mostly because of his physical appearance, which has been completely altered, for the worse, after he turned into the shapeshifting hero.

So, I won’t be surprised if he appears in the movie as a circumstantial hero rather than being one willingly. He might stand against Superman after being promised to be turned back to normal by either Stagg or Lex. So, now all we have to do is wait for Superman to fly into theaters on July 11, 2025, and until it does, let us know in the comments what you feel about this character.
