After launching its flagship X21 with an under-display fingerprint scanner, Vivo has launched a new device in the budget segment. The Vivo Y83 follows the trend of fuller displays and is probably the most affordable smartphone in India with a notch with a price of Rs. 14,990.
The Vivo Y83 is equipped with a MediaTek Helio P22 processor coupled with a 4GB of RAM. The processor is capable of AI applications and should optimize performance to suit the needs of users. Buyers get a storage of 32GB which can be expanded up to 256GB using a microSD card. You also get dual SIM support but without dual VoLTE.
The device features a 6.22-inch IPS display with an aspect ratio of 19:9 with a cut-out notch for the earpiece, front-facing camera, and sensors. The screen sports a resolution of HD+ (1520×720) which could be a dealbreaker for many users despite the lovely aesthetics.
In terms of photography, Vivo Y83 gets a 13-megapixel camera with f/2.2 aperture on the back and an 8-megapixel shooter on the front. The AI support on the Helio processor brings AI beauty mode to enhance pictures clicked with the front camera while the rear camera gets the ability to click portrait shots. While the Vivo Y83 has a fingerprint sensor at the back, it also gets “Face Access” to unlock the smartphone using your face.
The smartphone runs on Vivo’s custom UI called “FunTouch OS” based on Android 8.1 and the liking towards the custom skin should be subjective; but it will not meet the eyes of those who prefer stock Android. The Y83 gets its power from the 3260mAh battery which should last long enough considering that the display has an HD+ resolution.
The Vivo Y83 is available in black and golden colors for Rs. 14,990. It is available online on Amazon India, Flipkart, Vivo’s online store and even offline, and should attract those looking to flaunt a notch-ed up smartphone without burning a hole in their pockets
