Twitter Also Updates Privacy Policies To Meet GDPR Norms

How To Setup Third-party Authentication Apps For Twitter Login Verification

With the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) all set to go into effect in Europe from May 25, every tech company, software provider and service is making changes to their privacy policies to comply with the law that will govern how personal data can be collected, used and disseminated by companies in Europe. Twitter is now the latest tech giant to have joined the list.

In a press release, Twitter said that the changes are intended to cut out the technical and legal jargon and explain to users in simple terms exactly what kind of information is collected and how it is used thereon. According to the company’s data protection chief, Damien Kieran, “We think it’s absolutely essential that you know exactly what we mean when we refer to location data or data from advertising partners”

WhatsApp, LinkedIn, Strava, Soundcloud, and many other companies are also updating their terms and conditions to comply with GDPR. Companies such as Instagram and WhatsApp have also introduced tools that will allow to download all information they have shared on the platform.

The new privacy policies will go into effect in Europe on May 25 – the same day when the EU will enact its new privacy regulations. As part of process, Twitter says that once the changes come into effect, users in the EU will be greeted by a prompt explaining the new terms of service and privacy policy.
