The Penguin Fan Theory Identifies the Real Hangman and It’s NOT Carmine Falcone

The Penguin is four episodes in and the story is progressing at a really good pace. Even though it is based on characters from DC Comics, the show has changed elements and has done its own creative thing with the content which is being appreciated. For instance, in the comics, Sofia Falcone was the Hangman but in this series, as it turns out, she was framed by her father Carmine Falcone and the show suggests that Carmine was the real Hangman. However, a fan theory has surfaced that even Carmine Falcone is not the Hangman but it is someone else entirely.

Usually, I don’t take theories I see on X/Twitter with a lot of credibility but when I came across this theory posted on X by a user going by the username RichardOcelot, I was like “damn, this makes a lot of sense”. So, what the theory suggests is all this time, the real Hangman was Alberto Falcone.

According to the user who posted it, when we see the scene where young Alberto and Sofia are playing hide and seek in episode 4 we don’t see where Alberto is hiding. The TV show did not show Alberto very inadvertently. It’s possible that he witnessed his father kill his mom while he was hiding. This trauma could have manifested in him in the later years of his life, turning him into a serial killer who strangles women like his father did. This is supported by the fact that we see Carmine and Sofia present in the scene where Sofia’s mother is found hanging but Alberto is seen nowhere, giving rise to the suspicion that Alberto saw his father kill his mother and confronted him later.

Another point suggests that when in the first episode, Oz tells Alberto the story of a huge gangster we can see that Alberto is threatened that Oz is going to try and take everything he has. A guy who is that easily threatened and so hungry for power cannot let Sofia be his boss.

The theory also suggests that in episode 4 of The Penguin, we see that when Sofia, Carmine Falcone, and Alberto are having dinner together, he gets a call that makes him uneasy and then he leaves immediately. It could be that someone let him know about the journalist closing in on his identity and he goes off to take care of it.

However, what makes this theory makes it even more credible is how it could connect to the Penguin. Now, that Sofia has killed almost everyone in the Falcone family, she is practically unstoppable and can easily trace and kill Oz.

According to the X post, Oz killed Alberto knowing that he is the real Hangman and this might just save his life since he killed the man responsible for ruining Sofia’s life. This theory actually makes some sense and it would be amazing if this turned out to be true.
