Stranger Things Season 5 is set to be released later this year, bringing the industry one of the most gruesome fights ever. Our heroes are all set to fight the evil forces of Vecna, but we can’t expect all of this to happen without a lot of bloodshed. So, who will die in the final season of Stranger Things? Well, here, we have discussed the five prime candidates who could die in Stranger Things Season 5.
5. Jim Hopper

Like The Last of Us has Joel and Ellie, Stranger Things has Hopper and Eleven. At first, Hopper didn’t know how to deal with the loss of his daughter Sara, so he turned to alcohol and went into depression. However, after coming across Eleven, he decided to give life another chance and became the little girl’s protector. However, his dream of living a peaceful life with his newly found daughter was short-lived as he was held hostage in a Russian facility, and everyone, including Eleven and Joyce, believed that he was dead.
While some fans see no sense in killing him after the fake-out death in Season 3, there are some who think that his death can actually bring an emotional turn in Eleven and Joyce’s storyline. It can also give a fulfilling ending to Hopper’s redemption arc.
4. Johnathan Buyers

Johnathan Buyers has been the best son, brother, and loyal boyfriend since Season 1. However, after giving him significance in the first two seasons, it seems the creators had other plans for him, so they diminished his character growth in the third and fourth seasons. From one of the core characters of the television series, he eventually became a supporting character. So, it’s obvious that some fans started speculating that he will be one of those to die in Stranger Things Season 5.
Nancy and Steve’s closeness in Season 4 added to the speculations and led fans to believe that Johnathan’s death would bring the former lovebirds together dramatically. Additionally, he felt guilty for not being able to protect his little brother, Will, when he disappeared. Therefore, there is a chance that we will see the character make a heroic sacrifice for the sake of Will and everyone who is trapped in this horrifying situation.
The trailer also sees him sitting with a scared Nancy, who is seen crying while washing off blood from her hands. This scene gives more weight to all the interpretations.
3. Steve Harrington

Steve Harrington was initially one of the most hated characters in Stranger Things, but his transformation into a selfless and humble character made him one of the most beloved. He seems to have had a change of heart after losing Nancy. Anyways, all that matters now is that he never fails to show up when the Hawkins gang needs his support. In fact, he also stepped forward and dived into the Upside Down to fight for his friends. Moreover, his bond with Dustin and Robin stole the hearts of millions.
Stranger Things hasn’t killed off a major character so far, so it seems the record will be broken this time. Well, nothing is confirmed, but several fans believe, particularly after watching Dustin hugging him in the trailer, that Steve will die in the final season. Also, the killing of a significant character like Steve might raise the stakes of the science fiction series.
2. Vecna

Vecna emerges as the main antagonist of the series in Season 3, and it becomes clear that all the supernatural forces appearing in Hawkins were orchestrated by him. He has been the one to control the mind flayers, the demogorgons, and whatnot. So, the final season will see the heroes confronting him for one last time. The trailers clearly hinted that Eleven and her friends would try harder to find and kill the disgusting villain to free Hawkins from his terror. However, the journey won’t be that easy, though.
The trailers suggest that in this deadly fight with Vecna, some of the heroes will also die, but not without killing him. That’s because the conclusion will not make any sense if he survives. However, there are chances that the Duffer Brothers may keep their essence lingering to set up a potential spin-off.
1. Will Buyers

Well, it all started with the “disappearance of Will Buyers” in Season 1, so he is the link between the real world and the Upside Down. At the start, he appeared as one of the main members, but as the story progressed, we realized he is just as central a character as Eleven. He has the ability to sense Vecna and the presence of every supernatural force, so he will certainly play one of the most important roles in Stranger Things Season 5.
In the trailer, Will is seen investigating a creepy tree and releasing a fireball, which indicates that the boy will give his ultimate fight his all. He might not think twice before sacrificing himself to protect his friends, family, and Hawkins from succumbing to Vecna’s evil forces.
