Why did the Frontman join the games as Player 001? Will his brother ever find the island? What will happen to Gi-Hun now? These are the questions fans were left with in Squid Game 2’s ending, along with the anticipation for Season 3. While we quickly learned that it will be coming in 2025, we didn’t have an exact release date until today. Netflix has now officially confirmed the Squid Game 3 release date.
What is the Squid Game 3 Release Date?
In an official X post (as well as blog post), Netflix has announced that Squid Game Season 3 will be released on June 27. All new episodes of the third and final season will be available to stream on this day.
The X post also includes a teaser image, which features a bed of flowers, the infamous black coffin with a pink bow, and a Squid Game player being dragged by a guard. They also appear to be in the shadow of the doll from the Red Light, Green Light game, and Chul-su, the new boy doll who will join her next season.
For those awaiting the conclusion of Gi-hun’s story as well as the Korean drama series, the season is still five months away. The blog post also reveals a first look at popular characters, like Gi-hun (Lee Jung-jae) and Front Man (Lee Byung-hun), and new characters, like Kang No-eul (Park Gyuyoung) and others. We are yet to learn the true motives behind No-eul presence in the Squid Games.
Moreover, since the sequel ended on a major cliffhanger with Gi-Hun getting captured by the Front Man, “Season 3 will pick up after the devastating twist of the Season 2 finale.” Why has the series finale been divided into two seasons, you ask? Well, Squi d Game creator Hwang Dong-Hyuk while scripting the sequel realized that there was more story to tell than anticipated and the end of the 7th episode in Season 2 felt like “a big turning point or an inflection point.”
Hence, to do justice to Gi-Hun’s story, we are getting a third season later this year.
