Sentry’s Entry in Thunderbolts Could Fill the Void Left by the Avengers

Unless you are living under a rock, you’d be aware that Thunderbolts is bringing in one of the most powerful characters Marvel has ever created. When the inclusion of Sentry in a negative role in this movie came to light, fans were struck with confusion about how a team of underdogs with little to no superpowers is going to stand their ground against Sentry, and why there is not a single superhero in sight?

Well, what if I tell you that the absence of the Avengers could be the whole reason we see Sentry make his movie debut? There is a chance that Sentry could fill the void left by The Avengers in the world after the Thunderbolts somehow manage to bring down The Void, and here’s how.

Why Did Valentina Create Sentry in Thunderbolts?

According to what we know so far, Sentry is being created by Valentina in an attempt to create a hero that is more powerful than all the Avengers combined. My theory is that Valentina does not wish to see the rise of another superhero like that of The Avengers. This could be because of how much power is vested in The Avengers and what happened when Captain America went rogue to save Bucky. Even though The Avengers have always been a force for good, it was quite difficult to control their actions, and this is an aspect Valentina wants to eliminate.

Valentina wants a superweapon at her disposal that could also be easily controlled. To fit these criteria, we will see the creation of Sentry so that Valentina could have all the power she wants. However, based on the clips we have seen, it’s pretty safe to say that this plan of hers backfired.

Is Sentry Going to Replace The Avengers?

Sentry is, without a doubt, one of the most powerful beings in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and I think the Thunderbolts are aware of this fact. Since we’ve already established the fact that Valentina is introducing Sentry as a replacement for The Avengers, we could see a brief period where he operates as a hero, but later is consumed by The Void, turning into a massive threat for everyone.

This is where The Thunderbolts seem to come in. If you remember, in Captain America: Brave New World, we see that Bucky has become a congressman, so how did he get back to fighting and capture the Thunderbolts? My theory is that The Void successfully takes over New York City, and to save the city from him.

Bucky convinces the Thunderbolts to accompany him and save the city. So, to answer the primary question, yes, Sentry will replace The Avengers briefly, and the actual replacement for the team, as per the Thunderbolts post-credit scene leak, will turn out to be The New Avengers.
