Fortnite’s collection of skins has grown a lot ever since the game’s initial 2017 launch, with Epic Games releasing thousands of original and collaborative cosmetics over the years. However, in the Fortnite world, the rarity of a skin can act as a status symbol in the community. As Chapter 7 continues to unfold, some of the rarest Fortnite skins remain vaulted to this day.

These skins can range from starter packs, promotional bundles, Item Shop skins, or even rewards during events like Winterfest, which we haven’t seen in years. With Fortnite Chapter 7 bringing Epic Games’ A-game with all the new skins, it can be quite humbling to look back on the OG skins. With that said, let’s dive into the nitty-gritty of some of the rarest skins in Fortnite.

What’s the Rarest Skin in Fortnite? (January 2026)

As of January 2026, Black Knight is the rarest skin in Fortnite. Since Black Knight was a Battle Pass exclusive outfit all the way back in Chapter 1 Season 2, there are very few players who have the honor of owning the Black Knight skin. The skin was taken out of the game at the end of Chapter 1 Season 2 on 21 February, 2018. This means that it has been over 2800 days since the skin was last available to acquire.

While Black Knight is the rarest overall skin, various other skins in Fortnite are rare for different reasons. Let’s have a quick look at some of them.

Full List of Rarest Fortnite Skins (2026)

Editor’s Note: This list was last updated on December 24, 2025.

1. Black Knight

  • Release Date: 14 December, 2017
  • Item Shop Appearances: N/A
  • Last Seen: 21 February, 2018 (2871 days ago)
  • How to get: Only obtainable through Tier 70 of the Chapter 1 Season 2 Battle Pass

The Black Knight skin stands as one of Fortnite’s most recognisable outfits. Apart from the skin’s aesthetics and visual design, it also stands as a symbol of OG prowess. This is because the Black Knight skin was only obtainable through the Chapter 1 Season 2 Battle Pass. While players have numerous opportunities to earn XP these days, reaching the max tier in the Battle Pass back then required a serious commitment.

The Black Knight skin features an imposing warrior, clad in full matte-black medieval armor with glowing red eyes that would strike fear into any player. For many players, this was the first true sweat skin in the game. Since this skin was in the Battle Pass, it will never return to the game. This means players who have the Black Knight can flex their OG status essentially forever.

2. The Reaper

  • Release Date: 22 February, 2018
  • Item Shop Appearances: N/A
  • Last Seen: 30 April, 2018 (2803 days ago)
  • How to get: Only obtainable through Tier 100 of the Chapter 1 Season 3 Battle Pass

The Reaper skin holds a special place in Fortnite history as it was the first-ever Tier 100 skin in the game. At this point, it is no secret that The Reaper was based on John Wick, Keanu Reeves’ iconic on-screen assassin. Ever since its release, players have taken the Hitman vibe of The Reaper a bit too seriously, leading to one of the first running jokes in the Fortnite community.

The outfit features a simple and sleek tailored black suit and dress shirt, allowing him to embody the silent assassin gimmick perfectly. Much like the Black Knight, The Reaper was a tough skin to get your hands on back in the day, which means you are very unlikely to run into one of them in your game. However, if you are an OG, you still remember the feeling of seeing a Reaper skin rushing towards you.

3. Blue Team Leader

  • Release Date: 14 February, 2018
  • Item Shop Appearances: N/A
  • Last Seen: June 2018
  • How to get: Redeeming the now-discontinued PlayStation Plus Celebration Pack 1

The Blue Team Leader is arguably one of the rarest Fortnite skins out there. The outfit was first released as part of the PlayStation Plus Celebration Pack 1. This pack was only available for PS Plus subscribers, making this skin extremely sought after. While the skin features a relatively simple design, it has a simplicity that allows it to stand out to this day.

Even today, if a player sees a Blue Team Leader in their lobby, they tend to associate the player with being a “sweat” on account of the Blue Team Leader skin’s lack of Item Shop presence. Since the pack was discontinued, Blue Team Leader will potentially remain among the rarest Fortnite skins ever.

4. Sub Commander

  • Release Date: 28 February, 2018
  • Item Shop Appearances: N/A
  • Last Seen: May 9, 2018 (2794 days ago)
  • How to get: Could only be acquired for a limited time by Twitch Prime subscribers.

The Sub Commander skin is one of the many first Jonesy variant skins to ever be added to Fortnite. The outfit features a very simple purple-themed military design, matching the skin being a part of a Twitch Prime Pack. Signaling the rising influence of Twitch and Fortnite together, the Sub Commander skin was a perfect collaboration between the two companies.

This outfit is one of the game’s OG promotional exclusives, and the Sub Commander has since been vaulted. This means that it will never return to the Fortnite Item Shop, and you rarely find the skin in any matches. The Sub Commander skin’s rarity seeps outside the game itself, as players out there are constantly looking to trade/purchase accounts with this skin on them.

5. Havoc

  • Release Date: 28 February, 2018
  • Item Shop Appearances: N/A
  • Last Seen: May 9, 2018 (2794 days ago)
  • How to get: Could only be acquired for a limited time by Twitch Prime subscribers.

Similar to the Sub Commander, the Havoc skin was originally introduced in Fortnite Season 3 as part of the Twitch Prime Pack 1. This makes it just as rare as the Sub Commander skin and equally sought-after. Havoc features a pretty bombastic design compared to his peer skins, with nothing but the character’s eyes being visible as he seemingly prepares to live up to his name in a match.

Since the skin will never return to the Item Shop, Havoc is bound to stay as rare as it is right now. Havoc, despite being among the rare skins, is hardly tied to being a sweaty skin in Fortnite, and players hardly ever notice someone donning the outfit. Perhaps, players who own it see it as more of a badge of OG dedication rather than just another cosmetic.

6. Rogue Agent

  • Release Date: 27 March, 2018
  • Item Shop Appearances: 79
  • Last Seen: June 11, 2018 (2761 days ago)
  • How to get: Purchasing the now-discontinued Rogue Agent Starter Pack or available in the Item Shop for 1,500 V-Bucks

The Rogue Agent skin is one of Fortnite’s most iconic outfits, along with being one of the rarest. It was released all the way back in Season 3 and was part of the first-ever Starter Pack that players could purchase with real-world money rather than V-Bucks. This outfit truly demonstrates Epic Games’ simple yet creative designs.

Rogue Agent features a tactical look with a full-on combat helmet, making the character look like a Spartan out of Halo. Since the skin currently holds the vaulted status, Rogue Agent is rarely seen in a Fortnite lobby in 2026. The skin’s high exclusivity, along with the real-world purchase involved, proves its owners as some of Fortnite’s most dedicated fans.

7. Wingman

  • Release Date: 12 June, 2018
  • Item Shop Appearances: 80
  • Last Seen: 27 August, 2018 (2684 days ago)
  • How to get: Purchasing the now-discontinued Wingman Starter Pack

Wingman, much like the Rogue Agent skin, was one of the first Starter Pack skins. The outfit was released in Chapter 1 Season 4, with Epic Games trying to capitalise on Fortnite’s popularity with the launch of Season 4. Wingman features one of the most recognisable designs in Fortnite, with the fighter pilot’s flight suit and helmet with visor lenses perfectly capturing the idea of a high-octane fighter pilot.

Being vaulted after a while, the Wingman skin will never return to the Fortnite Item Shop. This has made the skin increasingly hard to find in lobbies, and it even greatly impacts the trading value for accounts that have the skin. With its rarity and unique designs, Wingman stands as a true throwback to simpler times in Fortnite

8. Ragnarok

  • Release Date: 12 July, 2018
  • Item Shop Appearances: N/A
  • Last Seen: 27 September, 2018 (2654 days ago)
  • How to get: Only obtainable through Tier 100 of the Chapter 1 Season 5 Battle Pass

Much like the previous two Battle Pass skins on this list, Ragnarok has claimed a legendary status within Fortnite. Being a part of the Chapter 1 Season 5 Battle Pass, Ragnarok instantly became a fan-favorite when it was first released. However, players had to grind the Battle Pass heavily to get the skin and all of its customization options.

The design still stands as one of Epic Games’ best, with the skin featuring an intimidating Viking warrior with tribal tattoos and an aura hardly matched by other characters. Not only was the Ragnarok skin aesthetically pleasing, but the character also worked with the worlds colliding theme of Chapter 1 Season 5, making it that much more special.

9. The Ace

  • Release Date: 28 August, 2018
  • Item Shop Appearances: 75
  • Last Seen: 5 November 2018 (2614 days ago)
  • How to get: Purchasing the now-discontinued The Ace Starter Pack

One of the most memorable starter pack skins of Chapter 1, The Ace skin was originally released to celebrate the High Stakes LTM in Fortnite Chapter 1 Season 5. However, the skin has since gone on to take an identity of its own. The skin portrays a female member of the Getaway Gang and was the only member to receive her own Starter Pack.

The Ace outfit features a slick heist vibe, showcasing a completely concealed operative, and a bright red color scheme that sets it apart from many other similar skins. Since the Ace Starter Pack is now discontinued, players hardly see this skin nowadays. However, it still remains as a jolly good reminder of Chapter 1 Season 5 and its events.

10. Summit Striker

  • Release Date: 6 November, 2018
  • Item Shop Appearances: 87
  • Last Seen: 29 January, 2019 (2529 days ago)
  • How to get: Purchasing the now-discontinued Summit Striker Starter Pack

The Summit Striker skin was one of Fortnite’s best attempts to capitalise on the holiday hype near the end of Chapter 1 Season 6. Summit Striker has since become one of Fortnite’s simplest yet most beloved skins over the years. With the skin being tied to a Starter Pack, it has only grown in rarity since its release, with players reveling in the skin’s simplistic design choices.

The Summit Striker skin features a tactical winter-ready look, perfect for someone who is ready to conquer any peak in front of them. Since the skin was vaulted alongside its Starter Pack, it has had decreasing appearances in most lobbies these days. However, its affordable price and role in signifying Chapter 1 Season 7 have made it a beloved skin over the years.

11. Reflex

  • Release Date: 29 November, 2018
  • Item Shop Appearances: 2
  • Last Seen: 4 March, 2019 (2495 days ago)
  • How to get: Purchase an NVIDIA GeForce graphics card.

One of the most expensive skins on the list, the Reflex skin was first released as part of an exclusive NVIDIA GeForce promotion. This was also a very controversial skin during its day, because it accidentally ended up in the Fortnite Item Shop and sparked a ton of outrage. Since the Reflex skin was a part of such an expensive promo, few players chose to get the skin.

With its sleek covert operative design and green color scheme fitting the collaboration, the Reflex skin is one of the rarest yet most known skins in the Fortnite roster. And now, it lives as a symbol of not just OG status but also graphical supremacy for many.

12. Galaxy

  • Release Date: 10 August, 2018
  • Item Shop Appearances: N/A
  • Last Seen: 7 March, 2019 (2492 days ago)
  • How to get: Purchasing an eligible Samsung device during the promotional period

Possibly the most popular collaboration skin of its time, the Galaxy skin is instantly visually striking and unique in its presentation. The skin was only acquired through purchasing certain Samsung devices back in 2018-2019, which means most players didn’t have a chance to obtain this outfit when it was available.

This level of rarity, mixed with the skin’s ethereal and cosmic look, has made it one of Fortnite’s mascots. Despite the Galaxy skin using a default skin as a base, it has managed to stick in the minds of many players. Even to this day, collectors and collection completionists always seek out accounts that could possibly hold this beloved outfit within them.

13. Cobalt

  • Release Date: 30 January, 2019
  • Item Shop Appearances: 44
  • Last Seen: March 11, 2019 (2488 days ago)
  • How to get: Purchasing the now-discontinued Cobalt Starter Pack

The starter pack for Fortnite Chapter 1 Season 7, the Cobalt skin features one of the most menacing designs on this list. The tech-inspired operative character has become a cult classic ever since its release. Being a part of a Starter Pack, Cobalt has become extremely sought-after with its “search and destroy” vibe.

With the Cobalt Starter Pack being discontinued in Chapter 7, a sighting of this skin out on the battleground is extremely rare. While not the rarest skin of all time, it does pack a punch of nostalgia for many players.

14. Honor Guard

  • Release Date: 25 February, 2019
  • Item Shop Appearances: N/A
  • Last Seen: Mid-2021
  • How to get: Purchasing the now-discontinued Honor View20 and redeeming the code that came with it.

Potentially the rarest skin on this list, the Honor Guard skin is an extremely unique case. Being tied to the release of the Honor View20 smartphone, the distribution of this skin was incredibly limited. The skin’s design doesn’t really feature much that makes it special apart from its striking blue design scheme.

However, this skin’s appeal doesn’t come from the aesthetics but from its rarity. The skin is now permanently unobtainable, which means you are highly unlikely to run into a player sporting this outfit. If you do come across a player with this skin, know that they are among the select few with the honor of this outfit.

15. Laguna

  • Release Date: 12 March, 2019
  • Item Shop Appearances: 90
  • Last Seen: 3 June, 2019 (2404 days ago)
  • How to get: Purchasing the now-discontinued Laguna Starter Pack

The Laguna skin was the Chapter 1 Season 8 Starter Pack skin and perfectly captured the summer feeling of the season with its design. While the skin still features a tactical look, her palm tree design pants, along with the bright red color scheme, made her the perfect summer companion skin in Chapter 1.

The Laguna skin is not counted among elite rarities like OG Battle Pass skins. However, it is still an incredibly rare skin in the game and has found its own niche within the Fortnite community.

16. World Warrior

  • Release Date: 26 July, 2019
  • Item Shop Appearances: 3
  • Last Seen: 28 July, 2019 (2349 days ago)
  • How to get: Purchasing it for 800 V-Bucks in the Item Shop during the Fortnite World Cup.

The World Warrior skin is the most interesting rare skin on this list. This is because this simple redesign of the default Ramirez skin was exclusively tied to the Fortnite World Cup, the game’s biggest event to this day. Epic Games decided to capitalise on the hype of the World Cup by giving players a sort of virtual souvenir in the form of the World Warrior skin.

The skin was available in the Fortnite Item Shop for just 3 days, marking one of the shortest runs of any skin in the game. Thanks to this, the World Warrior skin has gained a huge fanbase in the game, and players can use this skin as a fun throwback to one of the game’s most defining moments.

17. Wilde

  • Release Date: 4 June, 2019
  • Item Shop Appearances: 77
  • Last Seen: 14 August, 2019 (2332 days ago)
  • How to get: Purchasing the now-discontinued The Wilde Pack.

The Starter Pack skin for Fortnite Chapter 1 Season 9, Wilde, is a relatively normal skin among the many in this list. Featuring a flashy yet subdued design scheme with white tiger-stripes and shorts with a holstered sidearm, the Wilde skin gave players an affordable yet stylish option back in Chapter 1 Season 9.

The Wilde skin holds a decent amount of rarity in Fortnite lobbies in 2026, which means players might run into another player donning this outfit from time to time. This is largely due to the number of players who had started playing Fortnite and collecting skins by the time Chapter 1 Season 9 came around.

18. Red Strike

  • Release Date: 15 August, 2019
  • Item Shop Appearances: 80
  • Last Seen: 28 October, 2019 (2257 days ago)
  • How to get: Purchasing the now-discontinued Red Strike Pack.

One of the boldest designs on this list, the Red Strike skin was the Starter Pack skin for Fortnite Chapter 1 Season X. This visually striking skin features an assassin donning a gold mask that instantly grabs players’ attention, along with a sleek red-and-black combat suit. The skin packs a punch of mystery and swagger, all the while being very rare in the Fortnite ecosystem.

A lot of its rarity can be attributed to the low player counts during its season of release, Chapter 1 Season X, which meant that players were hardly spending time purchasing skins in the Item Shop. Despite that, the skin has established itself as one of the most interesting Starter Pack skins over the years.

19. Lt. Evergreen

  • Release Date: 24 December, 2019
  • Item Shop Appearances: N/A
  • Last Seen: 7 January, 2020 (2186 days ago)
  • How to get: Part of the Winterfest lodge gifts in 2019.

The only free skin on this list, Lt. Evergreen, came to the game during the very first Winterfest event all the way back in 2019. The skin features a straightforward design: Jonesy in a Christmas tree-inspired camo. It is one of the sillier designs out there, but it is a special one for many players.

This is because free skins were not a thing when Lt. Evergreen came out, which means he was the very first skin for a lot of players. Its rarity comes from the fact that it was a Winterfest lodge gift, something that won’t ever return to the game.

20. Travis Scott

  • Release Date: 22 April, 2020
  • Item Shop Appearances: 6
  • Last Seen: 27 April, 2020 (2075 days ago)
  • How to get: Through the Fortnite Item Shop for 1,500 V-Bucks

The infamous Travis Scott skin is now the rarest Icon Series skin in Fortnite’s vast catalogue. With a whole event dedicated to him, Travis Scott’s arrival on the Fortnite Island was a monumental time for players. Seeing such an iconic rapper join the game’s roster was a sight to behold. However, most players never predicted him to become so rare.

This skin’s rarity is a bit of a mystery. Many players believe that Epic Games is hesitant to bring Travis Scott back to the Item Shop because of his real-life controversies. However, the developers have never confirmed this to be the case. For the time being, players are left to wonder whether they will see the iconic rapper back in the game ever again.

21. Astro Jack

  • Release Date: 22 April, 2020
  • Item Shop Appearances: 6
  • Last Seen: 27 April, 2020 (2075 days ago)
  • How to get: Through the Fortnite Item Shop for 1,500 V-Bucks

Released right alongside the Travis Scott skin, the Astro Jack skin was certainly the more visually interesting one of the two. Featuring an astronaut-inspired design with a unique color scheme, the Astro Jack skin is undoubtedly one of the most aesthetically pleasing skins the game has to offer. Not only that, the skin even made an appearance during Travis Scott’s in-game Astronomical live event.

Much like the Travis Scott skin, the Astro Jack skin has never returned to the game since its original introduction. Players wait to this day to see this beautiful skin back in the Fortnite Item Shop, right alongside Travis Scott himself.

22. Rue

  • Release Date: 22 April, 2020
  • Item Shop Appearances: 2
  • Last Seen: 27 May, 2020 (2045 days ago)
  • How to get: Through the Fortnite Item Shop for 1,200 V-Bucks

One of the few storyline-related skins on this list, Rue was released during Chapter 2 Season 2, and it perfectly captures the spy war storyline of the season. Sporting a bright red jacket with the S.H.A.D.O.W. logo on her shoulders, Rue was meant to be another regular addition to the Fortnite roster.

However, ever since it left the shop after its original introduction, Rue has yet to make a comeback. Her rarity remains mysterious to this day, with many believing that she was only present in the game while she had an active role to play in the Chapter 2 storyline.

23. Iris

  • Release Date: 22 April, 2020
  • Item Shop Appearances: 125
  • Last Seen: 22 June 2020 (2019 days ago)
  • How to get: Purchasing the now-discontinued Iris Pack.

An infamous skin, Iris has had a contentious reputation in the Fortnite community. While her design doesn’t seem like anything special, she became a consistent choice for “sweaty” players when she first came out. Lobbies were filled with players wanting to show off their building prowess while donning this skin.

With such a reputation, the skin did lose a bit of its rarity as everyone rushed to own it. However, despite that, Iris is still considered one of the rarest skins in Fortnite, never returning to the game since her original introduction.

24. Seeker

  • Release Date: 1 September, 2020
  • Item Shop Appearances: 103
  • Last Seen: 7 December, 2020 (1851 days ago)
  • How to get: Purchasing the now-discontinued Street Serpent Pack.

One of the more underrated skins on this list, the Seeker skin has developed its own niche fanbase within the Fortnite community. Featuring a ninja-inspired outfit, including the hood and a menacing mask, Seeker stands out as one of the most aesthetically pleasing skins on the list.

Since the Seeker skin is tied to a pack, its rarity has grown a lot ever since its original release. While it won’t blow any players away with its presence, Seeker still stands as one of the rarest skins in Fortnite.

25. Kratos

  • Release Date: 4 December, 2020
  • Item Shop Appearances: 33
  • Last Seen: 19 March, 2021 (1749 days ago)
  • How to get: Through the Fortnite Item Shop for 1,500 V-Bucks

The Ghost of Sparta himself, Kratos, is one of the most iconic characters in all of gaming, and this is still the case within the realm of Fortnite. Featuring a design lifted straight from the Norse era of God of War games, Kratos made a huge impact as soon as he was introduced in Chapter 2 Season 5.

Now, players look for any hints or clues that might lead to Kratos’ return to the game. It is unclear why Kratos specifically is such a rare find. There is always a chance that Santa Monica Studios and Epic Games want to boost the skin’s rarity for the release of the next God of War title.

26. Sofia

  • Release Date: 28 June, 2019
  • Item Shop Appearances: 14
  • Last Seen: 25 March, 2021 (1743 days ago)
  • How to get: Through the Fortnite Item Shop for 1,500 V-Bucks

Inspired by Halle Berry’s iconic character in John Wick 3: Parabellum, Sofia instantly became a fan favourite for a lot of players when it first launched. Tied in with the Continental POI in Neo Tilted, the arrival of Sofia was an event and a half for a lot of players.

Faithfully translating the outfit from the movie to the game, Sofia has grown in rarity over the years. Despite having a good run in the Item Shop over many months, Epic Games has not brought back the skin for a long time now, with the reason remaining largely mysterious.

27. The Champion

  • Release Date: 27 May, 2021
  • Item Shop Appearances: 5
  • Last Seen: 31 May, 2021 (1676 days ago)
  • How to get: Through the Fortnite Item Shop for 800 V-Bucks

Much like the previously mentioned World Warrior skin, the Champion skin is tied to one of Fortnite’s biggest competitive events: Fortnite Competitive Series or FNCS. Released during the Chapter 2 Season 6 FNCS, the Champion doesn’t feature a complex design. It is mainly a Ramirez skin plastered in FNCS colors and iconography.

However, the skin’s rarity comes from it being tied to the FNCS event. This led to the skin having an extremely short run in the Item Shop, where a few lucky players nabbed it, and the skin has never returned since.

28. Lyra

  • Release Date: 18 May, 2021
  • Item Shop Appearances: 21
  • Last Seen: 7 June 2021 (1669 days ago)
  • How to get: Purchasing the now-discontinued Snakes & Stones Challenge Pack

Taking inspiration from Greek mythology, Lyra is one of the rarest and least-known skins in the Fortnite roster. The outfit features a modernized take on Medusa, the infamous Greek legend. This influence shines through her design, where the t-shirt with ‘Stonesy’ written on it definitely starts out.

Despite being an interesting-looking skin, Lyra hasn’t really gained a lot of traction in the Fortnite community. This has, in turn, contributed to the skin’s rarity. Since there isn’t much of a demand for her, Epic Games has not brought Lyra back to the game for a very long time.

29. Centurion

  • Release Date: 30 March, 2021
  • Item Shop Appearances: 82
  • Last Seen: 14 June 2021 (1662 days ago)
  • How to get: Purchasing the now-discontinued Hazard Platoon Pack

Unlike the Lyra skin, the Centurion skin suffers from having an incredibly basic design that is elevated by some interesting tattoos over his body. Released through another pack, the Centurion skin doesn’t really have anything special that sets it apart from other skins.

However, the skin is becoming increasingly rare with each passing day, as the pack it was a part of has since been discontinued. Apart from its rarity, players are hardly on the lookout for the Centurion skin.

30. Snake Eyes

  • Release Date: 31 January, 2021
  • Item Shop Appearances: 56
  • Last Seen: 7 November 2021 (1516 days ago)
  • How to get: Through the Item Shop for 1,800 V-Bucks

One of the, if not the coolest, GI Joe is Snake Eyes, and players were immensely excited to see the character come to Fortnite during Chapter 2 Season 5. The skin’s design remains faithful to what fans have seen Snake Eyes as over the years. His iconic visor, along with his GI Joe armor, makes for an instantly recognisable skin in the game.

For largely unknown reasons, Epic Games has not brought back the Snake Eyes skin for a very long time now. Some believe that the skin was an exclusive release for the promotion of the 2021 Snake Eyes movie. However, this has not been confirmed by Epic Games, so the reason behind its rarity could be anyone’s guess.

Can rare Fortnite skins return to the Item Shop?

Epic Games rarely brings back extremely OG cosmetics. However, if they haven’t said anything about a cosmetic not returning, there is always a chance.

Are there any rare Icon skins?

Yes, Travis Scott, which is one of the rarest skins in Fortnite, is an Icon Series skin.

Is trading accounts for rare Fortnite skins allowed?

Unfortunately, Epic Games does not support buying or selling accounts. You might be permanently banned for doing so.
