Who Is Mosa in One Piece?

Based on Loki‘s conversation, the appearance of Mosa’s Den Den Mushi, and the literary meaning behind Mosa, a popular theory circulating among the One Piece communities suggested that the current mermaid princess is Mosa. Now, this theory has become a reality as Oda subtly revealed that Princess Shirahoshi is Loki’s best friend, Mosa, in One Piece.
Earlier, there was only one piece of evidence where Gol D. Roger jokingly called Princess Shirahoshi Mosa (Shaggy in English) during his visit to Fish-Man Island. Several hundred chapters later, King Harald, who went to Fish-Man Island for the second time, referred to Princess Shirahoshi as ‘little Mosa’ in One Piece Chapter 167.
Therefore, Princess Shirahoshi might have used this nickname when she contacted Prince Loki through the Den Den Mushi. Loki, who hasn’t met Mosa yet, continues to call Shirahoshi Mosa just like his father referred to back then.
Meaning of Mosa in One Piece
One of the meanings of Mosa in Japanese is shaggy or hairy. The one character who strikes our mind immediately upon hearing this word is King Neptune, Shirahoshi’s father. The Mosa nickname is nothing but a long-running joke about King Neptune’s father, where people thought Shirahoshi would end up shaggy like her father. King Neptune asked Harald not to call his daughter little Mosa, as he was sure that she wouldn’t be shaggy like him.
When Gol D. Roger was leaving Fish-Man Island, the pirate king remarked that he didn’t have time to come back and kidnap Neptune’s shaggy daughter. Even though Shirahoshi is nothing like her father, she is funnily called Mosa by the other characters close to King Neptune.
Loki and Princess Shirahoshi’s Connection in One Piece
Many quickly began to realise that Mosa is Shirahoshi based on the way the mysterious character talks with Loki. So, when you revisit their conversations, it becomes pretty clear. Shirahoshi doesn’t like being shouted at, and Mosa asked Loki not to yell at her. Remember the incident involving Mosa, which triggered Loki? The prince claimed that he would have slaughtered everyone who hurt Mosa and destroyed that place if he were there.
With the reveal, it turns out that this incident was when Shirahoshi endured mistreatment and abuse from the Celestial Dragons during the last Reverie at Marie Geoise. We all know how Loki was left heartbroken when the girl he loved, Charlotte Lola, cancelled the marriage to marry someone else. Now, Mosa, aka Shaggy, may be Loki’s second chance at love again, as only Mosa has revealed the empathetic side of the prince.
Mosa remarked that they often found their conversations very relaxing and wouldn’t give them up for anything else. Moreover, King Neptune had the idea of betrothing Princess Shirahoshi to Loki and proposed it to King Harald in the past. So, they already have the blessings of their parents. All the signs point to the prince of Elbaf ending up with the princess of the Fishman kingdom after getting his heart broken by Charlotte Lola.
Loki and Princess Shirahoshi’s Role in One Piece
Not all One Piece fans are on board with this idea before, but now it has become a reality. We are aware that Loki and Shirahoshi, the prince and the princess duo, will play a vital role in the final war as the ancient mural in Elbaf hints at their roles. Princess Shirahoshi is the ancient weapon Poseidon, after all.
Queen Otohime, Shirahoshi’s mother, once mentioned that a certain character would come and teach Shirahoshi to utilise her ancient power for a good cause. Everyone believed it was Luffy previously, and now it makes us think it would be Prince Loki instead. The two sovereigns are bound to bring in great support to Luffy in the Final War.
Thus, Loki may head to visit Shirahoshi, his Mosa, once peace is restored in his homeland. That said, what do you think about the Mosa reveal? Let us know in the comments below.
