We have met a lot of the pirate crews in the One Piece world, including Roger Pirates, Whitebeard Pirates, and several others. However, Oda cleverly kept information about a monstrous pirate crew, the Rocks Pirates, hidden for years. The creator introduced the pirate crew while revealing details about the infamous God Valley Incident.
After their debut, every fan unanimously agreed that the Rocks Pirates are the most powerful crew to be put together. This reignited the spark inside every fan, including me, to learn about the Rocks Pirates and its crew members. So, let’s learn about the Rocks Pirates and rank their crew members in this guide.
Spoiler Warning: This article includes spoilers about the story and characters in One Piece. We suggest you read the manga to avoid ruining the intended experience.
Who Are the Rocks Pirates in One Piece?

- Japanese Name: Rokkusu Kaizokudan
- Debut: Anime Episode 958 & Manga Chapter 957
- Captain: Rocks D. Xebec
- Ship: Unnamed Ship
- Total Bounty: Unknown
Rocks Pirates was formed by Rocks D. Xebec after recruiting some menacing individuals via Davy Back Fights and banding together to as they shared the same hunger for fame and wealth. This was also the crew that conquered Hachinosu, the pirate island. Together, they were deemed the most notorious pirate crew in history and the strongest of their generation.
Rocks D. Xebec led this star-studded crew, which included the likes of Whitebeard, Big Mom, Kaido, and a host of other incredible pirates. Every single member went on to earn a title and fabled status for themselves after the crew disbanded.
Before Gol D. Roger became the Pirate King, the Rocks Pirates were the biggest pirate crew to sail the seas. Hence, they were the biggest hurdle in Roger’s life before he could achieve his dream.
All Rocks Pirates Crew Members in One Piece
Now that you know about how the Rocks Pirates crew was formed, let’s take a look at the strongest members of the Rocks Pirates.
Let’s start by addressing the weakest members of Rocks’ crew. There are many Rocks Pirates crew members, such as Silver Axe, whose names have been revealed, but not much is known about them. Additionally, there are images of select new members, such as the unknown fishman, whose names or details haven’t been revealed either. So, we can’t analyse the strength of the members who remain unknown at the time of writing this article. We will update this post and rankings once we get more information about these characters.
That said, here is the ranking for the Rocks Pirates crew members that we know about:
13. Streusen
Another surprising member of the Rocks crew was revealed to be Streusen. In the Whole Cake Island arc, it was revealed that he was one of the founding partners of the Big Mom Pirates and served as its executive chef.
As you might be aware, Streusen teamed up with Big Mom when she was just 6 years old. That journey led to him becoming a member of the Rocks Pirates along with Charlotte Linlin.
He is an expert chef and also a swordsman; thus, he likely served as cook and combatant for the Rocks Pirates. Also, he must have been a valuable member of the crew, as he continued his pirate journey with Big Mom following Rocks’ disbandment.
12. Don Marlon
Creator Eiichiro Oda is believed to have paid homage to the legendary Marlon Brando (who played the iconic role of Don Vito Corleone in The Godfather series) with his character Don Marlon in One Piece. Don Marlon is an infamous gangster from the West Blue who joined the Rocks Pirates after the captain recruited him by winning a Davy Back fight.
We don’t know if Don Marlon is related to Capon Bege, but we believe he belongs to one of the “Five Families of the West,” who are the underground mafia families operating in the West Blue. We are excited to learn more about this mafia boss in the upcoming chapters.
11. Gill Bastar
Out of all members of the Rocks Pirates, Gill Bastar is a special one, as he was the main character of Eiichiro Oda’s one-shot manga, Wanted. Oda then decided to bring this character over to One Piece as a member of the Rocks Pirates.
Gill has a unique design with four arms equipped with pistols. You must already be familiar with him, as he was one of the General Zombies in Gecko Moria’s army.
10. Ganzui
Gill Bastar wasn’t the only Rocks pirate crew member Gecko Maria had as a zombie, as the former warlord resurrected Ganzui the smuggler to be a general zombie for him. One couldn’t have easily forgotten this character as Ganzui had a strange design featuring a centaur-esque design. Maybe the centaur has to do with his devil fruit powers.
Ganzui, who was present in Elbaf with his crew, shared an important piece of history about the Hachinosu island, which is the home to gold deposits. He further stated that a mysterious criminal underworld organization helped the stranded pirates mine them, which earned the wrath of the World Government.
9. Wang Zhi
Wang Zhi, better known as Ochoku, the Pirate Guru was a part of a significant event in the One Piece story before we learned about the Rocks Pirates’ history. Remember the famous Rocky Port incident involving Blackbeard, Koby, etc.? We do know that Wang Zhi was the former ruler of Hachinosu Island. Although we don’t know much about them, Sengoku revealed in a flashback that he was a popular pirate, worthy of mention in the same vein as his crewmates, such as Captain John, Shiki, and many more.
In a fateful twist, Blackbeard, the son of Ochoku’s captain Xebec, was the one who snatched the throne of Hachinosu for himself. It would be interesting to witness this encounter in the series, as Blackbeard once had to team up with Koby to overthrow his father’s crewmate. Oda recently unveiled Ochoku’s design in One Piece chapter 1155, which hints that he may be the father of Caribou and Coribou in One Piece. Just like how Wang Zhi served Rocks, his son Caribou is in the process of joining Blackbeard’s crew.
8. Gloriosa
Remember this old lady from the Amazon Lily? She was called the “Elder Nyon” on that island. Out of all the surprising reveals, the fact that she was also a member of the Rocks Pirates blew every fan’s mind. One should note that she was the Pirate Empress of the Kuja tribe, nearly three generations before Boa Hancock’s reign.
During her reign, she is said to have abandoned her throne for a man she fell in love with. Eventually, she escaped from the island and joined the Rocks Pirates. Most fans predict that the man she fell in love with is Captain Rocks D. Xebec himself. But there are an equal number of wild theories claiming she was in love with Kaidou.
We don’t know anything for sure at the moment, but seeing her here as a part of the Rocks Pirates was a big surprise. Similar to the current Pirate Empress Boa Hancock, Gloriosa is expected to a powerful figure in her prime. More about her powers and connections is expected to be revealed soon.
7. Buckingham Stussy
It was predicted earlier that Miss Buckingham Stussy used to be a member of the Rocks Pirates. It was rightly said so, as she served as a member temporarily before becoming a scientist alongside Vegapunk, Caesar, Vinsmoke Judge, and Queen with MADS. After joining MADS, it is speculated that this is when the Stussy clone was created based on Miss Buckins.
During the God Valley incident, she was seen romantically involved with Whitebeard, and it was heavily rumored that they ended up together, which resulted in the birth of Edward Weevil. Also, it seems Stussy had a specific goal in mind before joining the God Valley Incident.
Additionally, there are many mysteries surrounding Stussy, her family, and her relationship. Currently, she is seen among the earliest Rocks Pirates members who have come to Elbaf in a flashback. We hope more about her character will be addressed in Loki’s backstory sequence.
6. John
One of the members we got to see earlier, even before we knew he was a part of the Rocks Pirates, is Captain John. I bet you can remember the drunkard zombie back in the Thriller Bark arc. It was none other than John, who used to be a member of the Rocks Pirates, but the specific time is never mentioned.
John also took part in the God Valley Incident, as he was seen mentioning that he wanted to get the prizes as part of his treasure. For those who don’t know, he left a huge treasure behind (opposite to Roger’s, as it was left after his crew’s mutiny), and Buggy is still searching for this treasure.
After the crew’s breakup, he started his own crew and led them as their captain. But that didn’t last long as his abhorrent personality resulted in mutiny inside his crew, which ultimately led to his death in One Piece.
Eventually, Dr. Hogback revived him as a zombie, and we saw his zombie version and powers in the Thriller Bark arc. I think we are on the right path to learning more about his character and the treasure he left very soon, as Buggy might use the power of his Cross Guild organization to advance the search for John’s treasure.
5. Shiki
Golden Lion Shiki was the antagonist of the One Piece Film: Strong World, one of the best One Piece movies. We never saw him in the manga until his official appearance during the God Valley flashback. Thus, fans were in joy to see him as a member of the infamous Rocks Pirates. It is mentioned that he joined the crew 40 years ago and participated in the God Valley Incident.
It is also observed that he already had Fuwa Fuwa no Mi’s powers by this time. Shiki was not much of a friendly member and was the polar opposite, as he was seen arguing with everyone. Like the other members, Shiki also used his time on this crew to gain experience and created the Golden Lion Pirates after the crew’s disbandment.
Recently, Shiki was expected to be the mysterious pirate waiting for the Straw Hats in the Elbaf nation, and also the father of Colon. However, the enigmatic pirate was later revealed to be Scopper Gaban, the left-hand man of the pirate king. However, Shiki has once visited the homeland of the giants with Rocks, as seen in Loki’s flashback in the Elbaf arc. Let’s see if we can get to see more of his powers next.
4. Charlotte Linlin (Big Mom)
The Rocks Pirates had many female members, and Charlotte Linlin stood tall as their vital member. After her terrifying childhood at Elbaf, Big Mom quickly became a notorious pirate at a young age. It is mentioned that Big Mom became a member of the Rocks Pirates when she was around 24 years old.
Six years later, the God Valley incident happened, and she played a major role in this battle. Since Big Mom already had her Soru Soru no Mi powers by this time, her homies, Napoleon and Prometheus, can also be considered members of the Rocks Pirates as they were Big Mom’s companions.
Furthermore, she secured the Uo Uo no Mi, Model: Seiryu, from Ivankov, who was about to consume it. That single action changed the entire course of history, as witnessed in the events of Wano. This is the same place where she parted ways with the Rocks crew. She served the crew for more than six years and went on to start her own crew called Big Mom Pirates at the age of 35.
3. Kaido
At the end of the Wano Country arc (one of the best arcs in One Piece), we see a glimpse of Kaidou at his young age. In one such instance, Whitebeard, who was on the same island as him, invited him to become an apprentice of the Rocks Pirates.
Then Kaidou’s career as a pirate began, and he met his lifelong friend Big Mom. The God Valley flashback confirmed that Big Mom stole the Uo Uo no Mi, Model: Seiryu from Ivankov, which was regarded as one of the strongest devil fruits in the world. She later gave the devil fruit to Kaido; as a result, he owes her a life debt for this gift.
As he was an apprentice, you can pretty much guess his role in this legendary crew. However, more importantly, Kaido learned everything about being a pirate, got himself an overpowered Devil Fruit, and rose to become the strongest creature in the world. Much like Whitebeard, Kaido started his own crew called the Beast Pirates after they parted ways. Kaido was defeated by Luffy in his Gear 5 form recently, and his current status remains unknown in the series.
2. Edward Newgate (Whitebeard)
Up next, we have Edward Newgate, aka Whitebeard, who was a part of the Rocks Pirates for a brief period. As we saw in a flashback during the Marineford arc, Whitebeard was a member of a small crew initially. From there, he made his way into this monstrous pirate crew.
During his time in the crew, it is more than likely that he was next in command to Captain Rocks. Whitebeard was also seen with Rocks when his captain visited Elbaf in search of King Harald. As revealed in flashbacks, Whitebeard wasn’t afraid of his captain and always expressed his thoughts loud and clear to him.
Thus, he seemed to be the only sane and rational member of the crew. Once the crew got disbanded after they were utterly defeated on God Valley Island, he started a new journey, creating his own pirate crew called the Whitebeard Pirates.
1. Rocks D. Xebec
Though introduced quite late in the story, Rocks D. Xebec swiftly became one of the most influential characters in the One Piece universe after his debut. He was the captain of the Rocks Pirates and Roger’s main rival, as beating him would enable Roger to become the Pirate King later in his life. During the God Valley Incident, the combined efforts of Roger and Garp were required to defeat this guy.
Rocks wanted to become the world’s King, as Sengoku stated. Recently, it was revealed that Rocks D. Xebec was Loki’s idol. During his visit to the Elbaf nation with Whitebeard for a meeting with King Harald, Oda unveiled the complete character design of Rocks D. Xebec for the first time in the story after continuing to tease him as a silhouette.
Oda has begun to unravel more about Xebec’s character, starting with the reveal that he is confirmed to be the father of Yonko Blackbeard. He is the first person in One Piece history who killed a Marine Admiral in the story. Furthermore, he was one of the strongest swordsmen of his time and recruited all of his crew members by winning the Davy Back Fights. So, undoubtedly, Rocks, the Admiral slayer, is the strongest member of his crew.
Currently, Rocks’ adventures on the Elbaf island, and we can’t wait to learn more about him since he was a frightening pirate in the past.
We waited many years to learn the truth behind the monstrous Rocks pirates, and now, we get the chance to slowly about each crew member. Nevertheless, we will get to see more of these pirates very soon, as Rocks was seen in a flashback in Elbaf recently.
In the meantime, do you agree that Rocks Pirates is still the strongest pirate crew ever formed in One Piece? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
One might get their minds blown by the members of the Rocks Pirates as they were revealed to be Rocks D. Xebec, Whitebeard, Kaido, Big Mom, Shiki, John, and many more infamous characters.
The Rocks Pirates were disbanded by their captain, Rocks, after the crew’s defeat at the hands of both Garp and Roger at God Valley Island.
No connection has been made between Luffy and Rocks so far. But many fans sincerely believe Blackbeard is the son of Rocks D. Xebec, as there are many clues to support this theory.
