Koby is introduced as a timid kid when he crosses paths with an aspiring Monkey D. Luffy who has just started his pirate journey in the starting episodes. Despite his frailness, he has been deadset on overcoming his weakness and becoming a Great Marine. Fortunately, he has Monkey D. Garp as his mentor and went through next-level training to become the “hero” he is today. Koby has unlocked many powers and abilities but what caught every fan’s eye is his newest attack —Honesty Impact. What Is Koby’s Honesty Impact Attack?

Thanks to his all-out training with Garp and using retired battleships as punching bags, Koby transformed into an exceptional fighter with herculean levels of strength, just like his mentor. Koby also mastered Rokushiki in tandem with Haki. When Avalo Pizarro in his island human form tried to sink the Marine ship in the battle between Marines and Blackbeard Pirates, Koby stepped up to save his friends from getting smashed to death.
Since Koby is not a devil fruit user, he follows in the footsteps of his mentor Garp, whose current status can be read here, and relies on his good old fists imbued with Haki to obliterate enemies in his way. In the One Piece manga, we see Koby get inspired by Garp’s Galaxy Impact and come up with his own version called the Honesty Impact.
It’s a simple technique where Koby first hardens his hands with Armament Haki. Then, he applies the advanced form of Armament Haki to unleash a powerful strike, which also sends a powerful shockwave ahead (which Luffy learned to be Ryuo in Wano) to destroy anything in range without touching it. That is how Koby leaps up in the air and completely shatters Avalo Pizarro’s hand to protect his marine friends.
Does Koby Have Conqueror’s Haki in One Piece?
When Koby’s Honesty Impact was animated in the One Piece anime, it reignited the old debate of whether Koby possesses Conqueror’s haki or not. I believe this question can be answered if we take a look at the complete timeline of Koby’s life.
As mentioned earlier, Koby gained superhuman levels of strength by undergoing rigorous training. Apart from that, he also mastered the Rokushiki techniques that further granted him abilities like unreal speed.
All that was left to be seen next was Koby’s haki. First, Koby unlocked Observation Haki during the Marineford War. Next, fans get to see his Armament Haki prowess during the Hachinosu saga (see One Piece arcs list here), and more importantly, we see a trail of black lightning that emanates only from Conqueror’s Haki users. This once again confused the fans about whether Koby possesses any Conqueror’s Haki or not.
However, we are certain Koby hasn’t unlocked Conqueror’s Haki, aka the Supreme King Haki, yet in the One Piece story. According to some fans, the streak of black lightning doesn’t always mean it is Conqueror’s Haki. However, I firmly believe this is classic Oda foreshadowing as Koby will one day master Conqueror’s Haki and use it to protect his beliefs and friends.
Koby mirrors Garp’s journey and walks the same path as his mentor. In case you don’t remember, Garp was also treated like he didn’t possess Conqueror’s Haki for a long time until he proved each and everyone around him wrong, while fighting against the Blackbeard Pirates. The same cycle is repeating, and Koby being a vital character in the final saga will see similar growth in the future of the story.
