Oda Introduces One Piece’s Worst Mother in Chapter 1153

It hasn’t been long since Oda delivered an emotional gut punch to the fans with Kuma’s tragic past in the Egghead arc. Fans are still healing from that wound, but Oda, without missing a beat, is on to deliver the next heartwrenching backstory in One Piece. We have all been waiting to see Loki’s past unravel in the ongoing Elbaf arc, and Oda kicks off his backstory on a deeply sorrowful note in One Piece Chapter 1153.

Throughout the series, we have encountered many terrible fathers in One Piece, such as Vinsmoke Judge, Kaido, and more. There have been an equal number of unsuitable mothers, such as Big Mom, Didit, and Baby 5’s mother, among others, whom the fans continue to hate. Well, Oda has revealed a new horrible mother in Loki’s flashback in One Piece Chapter 1153, who easily takes the crown as the worst mother in One Piece.

King Harald’s marriage to Ida wasn’t legitimized by the elders of Elbaf, as she didn’t have the pure blood of an ancient giant. Thus, the elders found him Estrid, a royal match from the alcohol village. King Harald had to marry her to carry on the royal legacy, but it was clear that she was unhinged, driven entirely by astrological beliefs.

Estrid gave birth to Loki when King Harald was away, 63 years before the present timeline. She was the one who named the baby Loki, as approved by the king. However, when Estrid saw her newborn for the first time, she was horrified by her child’s demonic appearance.

Estrid immediately assumed Loki was a cursed child devoid of innocence. So, she commanded her servants to lie to the king that their child was a stillbirth. The queen didn’t stop there as she attempted to kill the infant, the prince, by casting the infant down to the underworld. We have seen our share of the terrible deeds committed by parental disasters in One Piece. However, this incident tops it all as Estrid commits infanticide in this chapter.

To our relief, Loki survived this incident. However, Loki was barely a kid during this time, yet we see him clawing his way through the shadows of the underworld. This is one of the most emotionally chilling moments in One Piece so far.

Loki has been rejected by his mother and his people from the moment he entered this world. All these details raise our hopes for Loki being accepted as the new member of the Straw Hat Pirates at the end of the Elbaf arc.

This is just the beginning of Loki’s backstory, and we aren’t ready to face the remaining chapters. That said, do you agree that Estrid is the worst mother in One Piece’s history? Let us know in the comments below.
