Nokia smartphones could start receiving Android P updates starting next month, according to a report from NokiaPowerUser. One of the publication’s readers claimed he got an email from Nokia customer care, which clearly says the update would be rolling out in August.
Given HMD’s track record for Android updates in general and Android P Beta updates for its Nokia 7 plus, the claims are not too far fetched. Google is expected to roll out Android P to OEMs in Q3 2018. However Nokia could be planning an Android P Beta program update for most of its phones, which has already begun in China.
The fact that almost all Nokia-branded smartphones from HMD are under the Android One program, is also expected to help the company roll out Android P sooner than most, but exactly how soon it will be, remains to be seen.
While the exact ETA for the update is still up in the air, the one thing that needs to be pointed out here is that HMD Global has already confirmed that all of its Nokia-branded smartphones will receive Android P.
While the Nokia 7 Plus is the only HMD handset globally to have the Android P update, the Nokia 6 and Nokia 8 Sirocco have also joined the Android P beta program in China. It certainly looks like a promising start to Android P in terms of updates, which is one of Google’s major focus areas with the next version.
