HMD Global recently rolled out a new update for the Nokia 6.1 Plus which brought along the August security patch to the phone. However, the update also quietly removed the option to hide the notch from the smartphone.

While I, personally, was never very fond of hiding the notch on the Nokia 6.1 Plus’ LCD panel, a lot of people weren’t entirely happy with the change — something I can understand because matters like these should be left for the users to choose, and a setting to show or hide the notch was the perfect way to let users decide what they like best.

Now, Juho Sarvikas, the Chief Product Officer for HMD Global has claimed that the Nokia 6.1 Plus will once again get the option to hide the notch. In a Tweet, the HMD Global executive said, “Just to close the ‘notch gate’, we will enable setting to black out notch on the Nokia 6.1 Plus.”

Sarvikas didn’t mention any specific timeline for the feature to make a comeback, but we’re hoping that the company comes out with an update quickly. The Nokia 6.1 Plus is a pretty solid smartphone in its price range and is a part of the Android One family of devices that offer a stock Android experience.

There were also reports that Nokia had to remove the option from the Nokia 6.1 Plus because it’s a part of the Android One family, and Google doesn’t let OEMs add features to phones that come under the umbrella of Android One.

However, judging by Sarvikas’ tweet, this seems to either not be the case, or maybe HMD Global has reached some sort of an understanding with Google about the matter. We may never know, but whatever the case may be, the fact that the option to hide the notch is coming back will definitely be great news to a lot of Nokia 6.1 Plus users.
