What Do The Next-Generation Lumia Devices Offer?

Nokia may have sold its devices and services unit to Microsoft, but the Finnish manufacturer is not abandoning its Lumia and Asha lines until next year, when the deal is set to be finalised. The statement by Microsoft that it will acquire Nokia’s devices was something that has caught many in the tech industry unawares, as Nokia is finally beginning to see some progress with its Lumia series, and has successfully managed to brand the Asha devices as great devices for first-time buyers.

Whatever the reason may be, it is clear that the once-great manufacturer will not be manufacturing any new Lumia or Asha devices after next year. However, that does not mean that Nokia will not launch any new devices. It is currently slated for a major announcement on October 22nd, where it is rumoured that the manufacturer will unveil a total of six devices. Some of these devices have been leaked numerous times already, and give us a clear idea in terms of the new hardware and software features they will come with.

Nokia Lumia 1320

The Lumia 1320 will be the successor to the 4.7-inch Lumia 625. The Lumia 625 did not gain any significant attention in India, mainly due to the fact that at the time of its launch, it cost almost as much as the Lumia 720. The Nokia Lumia 625 price in India is now more affordable at Rs. 14,222, although it will be difficult for Nokia to sway consumers. This is the main idea behind the Lumia 1320. It will have similar hardware as the Lumia 625, and will be available to a wider audience.

No further details are available on the device, other than the fact that it is codenamed Batman internally at Nokia. It has been alleged that the Lumia 1320 will come with a slightly better 5 MP camera, and that it will feature a similar large screen that is said to be around 4.7 to 5-inches.

Nokia Lumia 1520

The Lumia 1520 will be Nokia’s next high-end device, and will feature the best internal hardware to be included in a Nokia device to date. Rumours strongly suggest that Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 800 will be seen on the device, along with 2 GB RAM and a 20.1 MP camera that has the same PureView technology as the Lumia 1020. Another interesting feature on the device is going to be its screen. Measuring in at 6-inches, it will be the largest screen Nokia put on a mobile device, and also has the distinction of being the first full-HD screened device on the Windows Phone platform.

Nokia Lumia 2520

The Lumia 2520 also marks another first for the Finnish manufacturer, in that it is the first tablet to be released by Nokia. The tablet is said to run Windows RT 8.1, and will also be a high-end offering. The leaked images of the tablet indicate that it will be styled in a similar way as other devices in the Lumia line, and the tablet might also come with a bevy of colour variations.

The Lumia 2520 is also said to feature Qualcomm’s 2.2 GHz Snapdragon 800 CPU, along with 2 GB RAM, 32 GB internal memory along with a host of connectivity choices that include the likes of USB 3.0 and micro-HDMI along with the standard Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 4.0.

Nokia Lumia 525

The Nokia Lumia 525 will follow the Lumia 520. The Lumia 520 is the most successful Lumia device, and by itself accounts for over 30% of the sales of all Lumia handsets around the world. As such, the Lumia 525 has a lot to achieve. Thanks to a set of leaked benchmarks, we know that the device will come with a 1GHz dual-core Krait CPU and an Adreno 305 GPU. The screen size is not mentioned but the Lumia 525 has a similar resolution at 800 x 480. Other hardware on the device will likely be slightly better than what we saw on the Lumia 520.

Nokia is set to announce a new set of Asha devices, along with a host of accessories along with the new Lumia series on October 22nd. The event marks the biggest launch event for Nokia, and might mark the manufacturer’s last such event, considering its sale to Microsoft finalizes next February.
