During the Final War, Deku had to sacrifice his One For All quirk to put an end to Tomura Shigaraki’s destruction. What Is Deku’s New Hero Suit in My Hero Academia?
After losing his One For All quirk, Deku became a teacher to teach and inspire the next generation of heroes. But deep down, fans wanted to see Deku donning a hero costume and saving lives, as he always has. The hero dream became a reality at the end of the My Hero Academia series when Deku received a new suit, allowing him to become a hero once again in his life.
Remember, All Might’s special armored suit? He used it to fight against Prime All For One in their final clash. All Might successfully cornered AFO by replicating the quirks of the Class 1-A Students. Thankfully, the useful data from this legendary clash was utilized by Mei Hatsume and Melissa Shield to come up with a new version of the armored suit, which was gifted to Deku.
Thus, Deku’s new hero suit is a prototype suit capable of replicating the quirks of One For All. As All Might requested, the more Deku uses his new suit, the more data they can collect to keep improving the suit in the long run.
Did Bakugo Pay for Deku’s Hero Suit?
Of course, massive funds were needed in order to create a specialized armored suit for Deku, and the one who organized the funds was Katsuki Bakugo. He started collecting funds for the suit project with the help of Izuku’s classmates (Class 1-A students). After arranging the funds, it took a long time of eight years for Mei Hatsume and Melissa Shield to create the hero suit with All Might’s data.
Bakugo may have started on the wrong foot with Izuku Midoriya, but he regretted his mistakes and began making amends for his actions later on in the series. Bakugo’s heartfelt apology to Deku is still one of the best moments in the MHA series. Now, Bakugo helped Deku become a hero once again by getting him a suit, which further strengthened their friendship.
What Does Deku’s Hero Suit Do?
Unfortunately, we only saw Deku in his new hero suit for a limited number of times in the final scenes of My Hero Academia. As Deku was seen only soaring upward with his suit, people couldn’t figure out the abilities of this suit at first. Luckily, the author Horikoshi himself cleared the doubts by revealing a little bit about Deku’s suit powers in an interview for the My Hero Academia: Ultra Age: The Final Fan Book.
It tries to mimic various OFA abilities, for example, it has cable extensions like that functions like his ability Black Whip. It also serves as a prototype where he can try to combine various abilities.
As you can see from the author’s words here, Izuku’s new suit is specially designed to mimic the various quirks of One For All that Deku was already familiar with. The author pointed out that his suit could shoot cables, which would work similarly to his iconic Black Whip. In addition, Deku could also use multiple abilities in tandem with one another in this suit.
While we never got to see Deku fighting while wearing this armored suit, we have a new detail that indirectly highlights the suit’s potential. In the final one-shot chapter 431.5, Deku is confirmed to have climbed up to the number four position in the Japanese Pro Hero Billboard Chart shortly after getting this suit. He is now called the “One For All Hero: Deku,” and with his previous experience with the OFA quirk, it seems he has mastered the abilities of his new suit.
