5 Biomes I Feel Need an Upgrade in Minecraft 1.22

In Short
  • The first biome I think should be changed in Minecraft 1.22 is the forest, as it's pretty boring.
  • The desert should use more additions like palm trees and unique mobs. Mushroom island should be made more magical with glowy blocks.
  • Finally, windswept hills and their variants have lots of terrain features but should also have more plants and a new bear mob.

Minecraft has a total of 64 biomes in all three dimensions, from oceans to forests and mountains. However, not every biome was made equal. Some biomes just lack character and features compared to others. Today, I’ll be sharing a list of biomes I’d like to be changed and improved in the upcoming Minecraft 1.22 update. I won’t be including the End biomes, as they all need improvements. So, buckle up, and let’s begin.

1. Forest

Forest biome that should be changed in Minecraft 1.22

The Regular forest Minecraft biome is the first biome on my list, as it’s so common and yet so bland. You very frequently spawn in a forest biome or next to one and all that it has for you are a bunch of trees, some animals, and flowers. Even though that’s perfectly fine for the gameplay, the biome itself is simply nothing special appearance-wise.

Forests in the Bedrock edition include fallen logs and even some moss carpets and mushrooms on top of them. This tiny difference makes them look and feel a lot more realistic. There should also be just simple stumps, as well as some trees with a holes engraved in their texture. Perhaps the ground changes in some areas to be podzol, moss, or rooted dirt.

When it comes to the ambiance I think lots of bird chirping sounds and fine details like dew and bugs on grass would be so amazing. There are usually plenty of mobs in this biome, so I don’t think any additions are necessary there. Admittedly, some other forest biomes could also use the same changes.

2. Desert

The desert biome is very intentionally barren and plain, but that doesn’t mean it shouldn’t get amazing additional features. Desert was one of the candidates in the biome vote in 2018, so we even have suggestions from the Mojang developers on how the biome could be improved.

The biggest suggestion I would give is there being palm trees as there are no naturally generating trees here. Another amazing addition would be meerkat mobs as they would bring a lot of life and movement to deserts.

The cactus plants could get a new top texture with a flower and sand blocks could get a couple of variants. Moreover, there could be a few more dead plants, as well as living and thriving ones that adore warm climates. Other added effects could include vignetting to signify the heat alongside stronger sound effects.

3. Oceans

All ocean biomes except the warm ocean feel really dull to me and should be changed in Minecraft 1.22. I feel they’re too similar and lack interesting features. I think they should receive more plant-like blocks that would bring colors to the biomes, as well as fauna, such as unique fish and mammals.

The deep ocean variants should be colder and perhaps would even provide a vignette effect indicating you’re cold, though you wouldn’t take damage. However, the frozen ocean biomes should apply slow freezing damage over time, making it more difficult to survive.

4. Mushroom Island

The Mushroom island or fields is one of the rarest biomes in Minecraft and it deserves to be enhanced in Minecraft 1.22. The mycelium blocks should have more variants and also grow stuff other than simple red and brown mushrooms on top. The giant mushrooms could also use more variants and perhaps new mushroom blocks growing on their sides.

While the mushroom island doesn’t really have a lot of hostile mob spawns, there’s still no way to tell if they do. I feel a sort of indication wouldn’t go amiss. I also imagine some glowing features in this biome, whether those are shroomlights in or around the giant mushrooms, or maybe a new plant light source block. Lastly, even though the mushroom islands are surrounded by water, another source like a lake or small pools would be a brilliant addition.

5. Windswept Hills Biomes

The final biome or group of biomes I’d love to see changed in Minecraft 1.22 are the most windswept biomes. Those include windswept hills, windswept gravelly hills, and windswept forests. These biomes are pretty rare and I am quite fond of them. However, they are very bland and could use more features.

They do have quite versatile variations in terrain, from cliffs and peaks to valleys and overhangs. However, the floor blocks should be more diverse and there could be stone, cobblestone, and mossy cobblestone boulders of varying sizes. Who knows, you could even add some unique plants here and even new mobs like a bear.

And these are the Minecraft biomes I feel need improvement when the 1.22 update drops. However, do note that there are even more biomes like that but these are my top picks. What biome do you think needs urgent attention? Share with us in the comments below!
