Marvel Rivals’ constantly expanding roster has welcomed Angela in Season 4. Now, this isn’t exactly what fans were hoping to hear since a previous leak hinted at the arrival of both Deadpool and Daredevil. But the Asgardian does have some interesting superpowers that essentially turn her into a flying tank. With this in mind, here are some pointers on how to play Angela in Marvel Rivals, including an overview of her abilities, counters, and more.
Marvel Rivals Angela: Kit and Abilities

Angela is Marvel Rivals’ first flying Vanguard. She’s also the first hero with a permanent flight mode who can simply land back on the ground and continue brawling with a melee moveset. Her arsenal includes Dual Axes, Spears, and a Shield, while her health pool is made up of 600 points.
The Asgardian’s kit is among the most versatile in the game, and especially effective against flying Heroes. She can freely alternate between gliding through the air, slamming back onto the ground, and slashing away at her enemies. While mid-air, Angela relies on the Spear of Ichors to poke at enemies. Moving around charges up an attack meter, which, at full charge, empowers the spear for a more powerful attack.
The tank can dive back into the thick of it via the Divine Judgement ability. On slamming into the ground, Angela creates a Divine Judgement Zone, granting enhanced speed and bonus health on attacks to herself and nearby allies. For ground duels, she’s equipped with Axes of Ichors that gain attack power with each swing. The fourth strike with the axes propels you forward in a swift dash.
She can make quick escapes by taking to the skies via the Wingblade Ascent ability. Naturally, this will see her switch back to the spear, which can also be used to manipulate enemy positions through the Assassin’s Charge ability. Finally, her Ultimate sees Angela hurl her spear into a chosen area, binding nearby enemies to it and giving the Vanguard a free charge of Divine Judgement.
Angela’s team-up ability is named Celestial Command, and it sees her combine with Thor for an electrifying maneuver. When both characters are in the same comp, Thor is granted a Thunder Spear that restores Thor Force upon impact. He can then leap directly to the impact point, closing the distance and opening combo opportunities.
It’s a pretty aggressive team-up that should be effective at hunting down rival Support players and applying constant pressure that can cause the opposition to retreat.
Name | Input | Description |
---|---|---|
Spear of Ichors | Primary Fire (In Air) | Lunge forward with your spear, dealing damage that increases with Attack Charge. At full charge, Spear of Ichor can deal more damage and launch up enemies. |
Axes of Ichors | Primary Fire (On Ground) | Alternate powerful strikes forward with twin axes, dealing increased damage as Attack Charge grows. The fourth strike propels you forward in a swift dash. |
Shielded Stance | RMB | Transform Ichors into a shield, gaining Attack Charge when absorbing damage. |
Assassin’s Charge | Shift | Enter an accelerated dash state, becoming immune to knock-back and launch-up. Enemies struck head-on are carried through the air for a short distance. |
Divine Judgement | E (In Air) | Dive downward, switch to twin axes, and infuse the ground with Ichors to create a Divine Judgement Zone upon impact. Within the zone, gain enhanced Speed and attacks grant Bonus Health to self and nearby allies. |
Wingblade Ascent | E (On Ground) | Take to the skies, switching back to Spear of Ichors. |
Seraphic Soar | Passive | Glide freely through the air. Continuous flying builds Attack Charge.. |
Heaven’s Retribution | Q (Ultimate) | Wrap your spear in ribbons and hurl it with force. Upon impact, the ribbons bind nearby enemies. Angela can leap to the spear’s location, damaging surrounding enemies and creating a Divine Judgement Zone. |
Celestial Command | Team-Up Ability | Angela shares fragments of her Ichors with Thor, empowering him to hurl a Thunder Spear that restores Thorforce for each enemy struck. Afterward, Thor can leap to the spear’s explosion point, dealing a second wave of damage to all enemies within range. |
How to Play Angela in Marvel Rivals
Angela is a hybrid tank, capable of commanding the frontlines, dealing damage, and delving into her dive bag to create openings. She can manipulate enemy positions while also fending off airborne nuisances such as Iron Man. In melee duels, Angela can carve into foes using Dual Axes, making her a close-range force to be reckoned with.
This overview doesn’t do justice to her incredibly versatile kit, but that four-star difficulty rating isn’t just for show. Without mastering the positioning and patience required to use the character, you’re likely to glide towards quick eliminations.
To start off, picking and choosing when to go airborne and when to descend back down is crucial. If the enemy comp is reliant on aerial Heroes, take to the sky and use your shield to close the distance on them. Once they’re in reach, use your melee instead of the primary Spear attack. This sees Angela execute a quick sword slash, whose animation can be canceled by triggering your primary fire. As a result, you’ll be able to dish out damage quicker than normal.
When it comes to melee brawls, aim to dive down while your team is contesting. Whether it’s pushing a convoy or holding down a choke point, the Divine Judgement slam can come in clutch since it buffs allies and can immediately put enemies at a disadvantage. With that being said, make sure to alternate between her aerial and grounded stances to keep rivals on their toes. Unpredictability is an important aspect for mastering the Vanguard.
Outside of this, make sure to complete your standard tank duties by absorbing damage using your shield on the frontlines. This will give your DPS teammates some much-needed breathing room, allowing them to focus on ranged attacks.
Angela also has an airborne dash, which lets her rush headfirst into an enemy, dragging them away with the thrust of her spear. This is obviously extremely handy at securing easy kills by pushing enemies off the map. However, it’s susceptible to being countered. As such, we recommend using it to displace enemies instead, and dragging away enemy Vanguards. This will instantly open up the enemy’s formation, causing all sorts of panic through their ranks.
Lastly, her Ultimate is great for locking down targets and priming the battlefield for devastating combos. While executing it, we recommend holding on to the leap that comes with the Ultimate. Instead, throw down your spear, slam down using Divine Judgement, and then hit the Ult button again to pull off the leap. This stacks even more damage on top of the powerful ability.
Marvel Rivals Angela: Best Counters
In trained hands, Angela can be the most effective Hero on the battlefield. However, her lack of ranged attacks is a significant shortcoming that can be exploited by the many hitscan characters in Marvel Rivals:
Character | Counter |
---|---|
The Punisher | Since Angela will be airborne for extended durations, The Punisher can easily pepper her using his ballistic arsenal. |
Groot | Groot can spawn walls that can directly counter Angela’s dives, denying her the opening for a melee salvo. |
Hawkeye | Another ranged hitscan Hero that can fire at Angela from miles away, all while remaining in cover. |
Luna Snow | Since Angela cannot be launched or knocked back, Luna Snow’s freezing abilities become an excellent counter. |
And that wraps up our guide on Angela in Marvel Rivals. How are you finding the new Vanguard? Be sure to let us know in the comments.
