All Factions in Marathon Season 1

CyberAcme
- Faction Bonuses: Grants Utility and Efficiency bonuses, focusing on faster ability cooldowns, increased backpack space, and heat management.
CyberAcme serves as the technological backbone for Runners in Marathon, being the architects behind the Runner Shells’ ONI (Onboard Navigational Intelligence) systems, which facilitate your survival on Tau Ceti IV. This technologically advanced faction offers players contracts that serve to help players master and enhance the game’s core mechanics.
CyberAcme’s faction progression allows players to access unique upgrades that generally focus on utility and efficiency. This includes bonuses like helping players with managing Heat in Marathon.
NuCaloric
- Faction Bonuses: Enhances Agility and Discovery by boosting sprint duration, climbing speed, and reducing fall damage.
NuCaloric is the explorer faction in Marathon, with the group placing more importance on how you move rather than how you fight. This faction is led by strange, floating head names Gaius and is obsessed with uncovering the secrets of the abandoned New Cascadia Colony and finding out why everything fell apart. NuCaloric’s contracts are all about agility and discovery, tasking you with finding hidden paths or scouting out hard-to-reach locations.
MIDA
- Faction Bonuses: Provides Tactical Sabotage tools, specifically improving explosive damage, trap efficiency, and stealth while looting.
MIDA is the rebel faction in Marathon, stemming from a former political party that has turned into an underground resistance group that hates corporations like Traxus. This faction is perfect for players who focus on disrupting the battlefield, with MIDA’s contracts focusing on chaos and destruction. This includes blowing up corporate infrastructure or using explosives to break up enemy supply lines.
Traxus OffWorld Industries
- Faction Bonuses: Focuses on Economy and Firepower, unlocking high-tier weapon mods, heavy shields, and increased credit payouts.
Traxus OffWorld Industries represents the peak of the corporate environment on Tau Ceti IV, driven by the goal of reclaiming industrial assets left behind by the UESC. This faction is mostly tied to Marathon’s economy and looting, with Traxus contracts tasking you with securing high-value salvage. To progress with this faction, you need to extract specific components, weapon mods, and other rare materials.
Arachne
- Faction Bonuses: Boosts Combat Lethality through increased melee damage, faster reload speeds, and specialized PvP hunting gear.
Arachne is the best choice for players who see Tau Ceti IV as a hunting ground rather than a looting zone. This faction is consistently referred to as a “death cult” that sees combat as a form of transcendence. Represented by Agent Charter, Arachme’s contracts almost exclusively focus on PvP aggression, tasking you with hunting down other Runners and maintaining high kill streaks.
Sekiguchi Genetics
- Faction Bonuses: Prioritizes Survival and Recovery, offering faster health regeneration and reduced penalties for dying during a run.
Sekiguchi Genetics is the faction that focuses on your Runner Shell’s survival rather than their guns and equipment. Their representative, Nona, harbors an obsession with how Marathon Runner Shells work and how to keep them functioning in the harshest conditions. This is the perfect faction for you if you prefer playing solo, as the Sekiguchi Genetics contracts usually focus on exploring dangerous areas to collect research data or simply surviving for long periods in high-risk zones.
How Do Contracts Work in Marathon?

Contracts lie at the center of your progression in Marathon factions, serving as a bridge between looting and purposeful quests. In the world of Marathon, you are not a loyalist to any of these factions, but rather a mercenary. While you can work for all six factions at the same time, you can only have one active contract per run. Here are the different types of contracts you will encounter in Marathon:
- Liaison Contracts: Special introductory missions. Completing one unlocks that specific faction permanently (even across seasonal resets).
- Standard Contracts: Repeatable missions (e.g., “Collect 5 Circuit Boards”). These provide steady Reputation (Rep) and basic rewards.
- Priority Contracts: Narrative-heavy, one-time missions. These are the primary ways to increase your Faction Rank and unlock entries in the Codex.
- Boosted Contracts: Higher-difficulty versions of standard missions with significantly better loot and Rep multipliers.
As you complete faction contracts and earn Reputation points, you will climb through the ranks of these factions, with each rank unlocking faction-specific Marathon weapons, mods, and consumables. Additionally, you can also unlock permanent stat boosts through faction progression, allowing you to increase your movement speed, healing speed, or inventory space.
