According to a recent listing on Geekbench, LG is working on a new mid-range smartphone that will be powered by a MediaTek chip. The device is listed as the ‘LGE LM-Q7 10.FG’, and features MediaTek’s MT6755 SoC, otherwise known as the Helio P10. The chip comes with an integrated octa-core CPU that’s clocked at a modest 1.51GHz. The listing also reveals that the device sports 4GB of RAM, and runs Android 8.1 Oreo out-of-the-box.

As can be seen from the image, the device notched up just 630 points in the Geekbench single-core test and a mere 2322 points in the multi-core benchmark, both of which are fairly modest by mid-range standards in 2018. The device is expected to be the successor to the LG Q6, which was launched last year.

It’s worth noting that the Q6 was one of the first mainstream mid-range handsets to have shipped with the new 2:1 form factor at a time when that was still a novelty in the budget segment. While the upcoming device is also expected to carry on with the elongated design language, it will be interesting to see if it will have a notch just like every other phone that has launched this year, including its own stablemate, the G7 ThinQ.

Interestingly, LG last year launched another mid-ranger called the Q8, which is believed to be a ‘Lite’ version of the LG V20. That being the case, it will be interesting to see if the company designs the Q7 as a mid-range version of V30s ThinQ instead of the G7 ThinQ. It will also be interesting to see whether the company will finally bring its ThinQ AI platform to mid-rangers with its upcoming device.
