Jujutsu Kaisen: Yuji’s Powers and Abilities Explained

Jujutsu Kaisen is one of the major Shonen animanga series that has garnered a huge fanbase since its debut in 2018. The story revolves around Yuji Itadori, who doesn’t seem to be anything special at the beginning of the series. So, he was often seen getting overshadowed by other characters, such as Nanami and Gojo. However, the recent chapters of the manga finally gave our boy a chance to shine, and we saw him doing the unthinkable. In this article, we discuss Yuji Itadori’s powers and abilities in Jujutsu Kaisen.

Spoiler Warning: This article includes major spoilers for Yuji Itadori’s character in Jujutsu Kaisen. Proceed with caution.

1. Superhuman Physical Abilities

Yuji Itadori was conceived by Kaori and Jin Itadori when the former was a vessel of Kenjaku aka Psuedo-Geto. So, Yuji was born with superhuman physical strength, which made him a possible threat to every enemy, including curses. When we say that he has incredible physical strength, we do not just mean that he can beat the crap out of enemies, but we also mean he can throw huge things like cars by picking them up with ease.

He can make holes in the walls with heavy kicks and shatter glasses without even getting a scratch on his body. At the Goodwill event, Todo complimented him when Yuji overwhelmed the big guy with some weighty punches.

He is also one of the fastest characters in Jujutsu Kaisen’s universe. Given his athletic body, we got a glimpse of him running on a 50-meter track in seconds. His hold on his speed has helped him dodge attacks from the enemies numerous times. For instance, Choso’s Blood-piercing ability travels at the speed of sound, and Yuji was one of the rare individuals to evade it due to his fast reflexes.

2. Mastery in Martial Arts

Yuji’s proficiency in martial arts shouldn’t be questioned, as he is not only a human but has also pummeled several special-grade curses with his kicks and punches. He received training in this fighting technique from his grandfather, and he polished his skill set over the years.

In fact, his hold in Martial Arts enables him to go toe-to-toe even with the Boogie Woogie user Aoi Todo, who is among the best martial artists in the Jujutsu world.

Be it the flying kicks, heavy punches, or knee strikes, Yuji has expertise in all. That’s why, despite not having any innate technique, Yuji didn’t have any difficulty surviving after enrolling in Jujutsu High.

3. Soul Damage

The origin of Yuji’s Soul damage technique is still unknown, as it came as a surprise when he attacked Mahito and made him bleed. Mahito is a curse who would remain unaffected by his enemies until they directly harm his soul.

Now that the series has ended, several things about Yuji remain a mystery, and among those is his Soul Damage technique, which continued to grow throughout the series. For instance, following the Culling Game Arc (JJK Season 3), his ability reached the next level, making him potent enough to damage even the King of Curses’ soul.

4. Immune to Poison and Curses

Yuji became the host to Sukuna, the most potent curse of all, so it’s evident that the boy could remain unaffected even by deadly curses and poison. Sukuna was not considered an invincible threat to humanity without any reason.

There’s no denying that Yuji was already potent enough to take down supernatural beings with his bare hands. However, immunity against poison, the ability that came to him as a gift from the King of Curses, made him even stronger.

5. Black Flash

Black Flash is an ability that makes an individual extremely special, as not everyone can possess it. Well, I know it would be shocking, but not even Gojo Satoru could unleash it. It requires an extreme level of concentration and can only be used when a sorcerer uses their cursed energy within 0.000001 seconds after hitting their opponent physically.

In Chapter 257, while fighting Sukuna, Yuji surprises every fan and the king of curses when, out of nowhere, he overwhelms the evil curse with back-to-back black flashes.

6. Reverse Cursed Technique

Before heading to the final battle with Sukuna in the Shinjuku Showdown arc, Yuji learned how to use the Reverse Cursed technique. RCT is a complex technique that requires a lot of patience and hard work to master.

Yuji has impressed his peers and shocked the curses several times, but he left everyone speechless when he unleashed this ability, which he has been using for ages.

7. Divergent Fist

While every sorcerer in JJK comes with some sort of unique ability, the main protagonist of the show didn’t have any at the beginning of the series. However, his potential was seen with the story moving forward. Divergent fist is a fighting technique that Yuji created.

The ability is unleashed whenever Yuji combines his punch with a thin layer of cursed energy. Divergent Fist emerges as a life savior whenever used in close proximity.

8. Soul Swapping

Although Yuji hasn’t used this ability in the series, he swapped his soul with Kusakabe in Chapter 222. While it wasn’t confirmed at the time, Chapter 258 hinted that Yuji might have learned to swap bodies from Ui Ui. Unlike Kenjaku, Yuji can make use of this technique only with the permission of the one he wants to swap with.

9. Blood Manipulation

Blood Manipulation is one of the most incredible techniques in Jujutsu Kaisen. It allows the users to injure their enemies by manipulating their blood into weapons.

The members of the Kamo Clan mainly inherit this technique, but Yuji gained access to this ability after absorbing Death Paintings 4-9. Later, he received training from two of the most significant users of the Blood Manipulation technique, ie. Choso and Naritoshi.

Yuji showcased his hold on this technique during the fight between Sukuna and Yuta Okkotsu. Itadori utilized his learnings to distract the King of Curses.

10. Shrine

The final arc was indeed bliss for every fanatic as it surprised the community with loads of twists and turns. We got to see the ultimate character development of Yuji, whom we never considered as the series’s main protagonist. Sukuna’s tremendous cursed energies helped him kill the strongest sorcerer, Gojo. So, we know how powerful his techniques were.

One such technique was the Shrine, which Yuji gained access to during his faceoff with the King of Curses in the series’ final arc. Shrine is said to be one of the strongest techniques in history, making Sukuna an invincible foe to his enemies. This technique allows the users to release some powerful attacks on their enemies and stop only after destroying them entirely.

11. Devil Arms

Like Yuji’s several techniques, his Demon Arms remain a mystery as none of us know how he summoned those new pair of arms during his fight against Sukuna in the Culling Game Arc. This power-up even leaves Sukuna speechless, as he also never thought of seeing Yuji’s monstrous transformation that not even he could see coming.

12. Domain Expansion

The Shinjuku Showdown Arc gave Yuji back-to-back power-ups, but his domain expansion remains every fan’s favorite as it has come out of nowhere. Yuji needed to master two things to open his own Domain. The first one was mastery of the barrier technique, which he learned from Kusakabe during the time-skip. The second one was using his innate technique (the Shrine Technique, in Yuji’s case) within his barrier.

By mastering these two skills, he was able to unlock and trap Sukuna within his domain. For a close look and explanation of Yuji’s domain expansion, make sure to go through our linked guide. So, our beloved protagonist was finally able to grow into the role his sensei believed he would and took on the reigns of passing this knowledge to the future generations in the final manga chapters.
