The first-ever solo project on Penguin is set to release soon on HBO and MAX. The Penguin Series will be an extension of the world of The Batman created by Matt Reeves in 2022. This series is going to take place after the events of The Batman, where the aftermath of Riddler’s actions will be explored with Oswald Cobblepot trying to take over Gotham’s crime. However, the trailers show us that we might get to see Penguin in a slightly better light as compared to his comic book origins. So, is Penguin a hero or a villain?
Penguin Is One of the Most Intelligent Villains in DC
Since the very first appearance of Oswald Cobblepot in DC comics, Penguin has always been a notorious villain. However, if you look at the character in comparison to other Batman villains, Penguin is more of a mastermind villain as compared to the psychotic nature of other villains. Sure, he hates Batman, but also knows very well when not to mess with him and stay in his lane.
Penguin is arguably one of the most intelligent villains in the long list of foes Batman has. The best thing about him is that he never gets his own hands dirty and accomplishes all the dirty work at the hands of his henchmen. At the end of the day, Penguin is a businessman who always thinks about his profit and there have been multiple instances where he has helped Batman and his allies to take down people acting as his competition.
Is Penguin Going to Be a Villain in The Penguin Series?
In The Penguin series, we will not see him start as a crime boss. However, we are going to witness Oswald Cobblepot’s rise to becoming one. The series is set right after the events that took place in The Batman. We will witness Gotham and its crime in chaos right after what Riddler did to Gotham City.
Oswald will take advantage of this chaos and grow to become The Penguin and one of the most notorious crime bosses in Gotham. In the broader sense of things, Penguin will always be a villain but since there is no Batman in this series, we can’t say he is a villain in the context of this show but rather the protagonist.
