Invincible Season 3 is out with episode 5 and while it features an epic battle sequence where Mark and Atom Eve battle Mister Liu in his dragon form, the highlight of this episode was the backstory of Dupli-Kate and Multi-Paul. This is the first time since season 1 we have gotten an insight into Kate’s childhood, especially, her father. Since the episode itself did not tell us a lot about Dupli-Kate and Multi-Paul’s father and also their mom, let’s take a look into Invincible Comics to learn more about him!
Who Is Dupli-Kate and Multi-Paul’s Father?
Dupli-Kate and Multi-Paul’s father is Tsing Cha, and in Invincible comics, he had a serious nervous breakdown since Kate and Paul did not have any control over their multiplication powers. Even though he was a father of just two kids, he had to take care of hundreds of children who just couldn’t stop multiplying.
The pressure and tension drove him mad and he had to be taken to a mental institution while Kate and Paul were taken in by the GDA. Even though Invincible showed us that Mr. Cha lost his mind, Kate and Paul having their powers was destined hundreds of years even before the events of Invincible came into being.
In Invincible #25, we got to know that Fung Cha, an ancestor of Kate and Paul killed the Chinese emperor, and before he died, he cursed Fung by saying “The seventh generation after Cha’s seventh grandchild will be driven mad by a family too large to care for“. This is the reason why Dupli-Kate and Multi-Paul have their multiplication powers which became the reason for Tsing Cha going mad.
What Happened to Dupli-Kate and Multi-Paul’s Mom?
In the same comic issue, Invincible#25, which tells the tale of their father, we get to know that Dupli-Kate and Multi-Paul’s mother died at childbirth. However, in the comic, it is not addressed if the cause of her death was her children’s powers but her death left Tsing Cha alone to raise Kate and Paul eventually driving him mad.
