Since Season 1, Cecil has been one of the most important characters in the show and the head of GDA, but not much was told to us about his history or origin. However, Invincible Season 3 has given us much-needed insight into Cecil’s history and why he is the way he is. So, without wasting much time, let’s get right into it and talk all about Cecil and his origin story, as seen in Invincible Season 3.
Who Was Cecil Before Becoming the Head of the GDA?
As seen in the second episode of Invincible Season 3, Cecil was a field operative or a secret agent. We get to see a glimpse of how Cecil got the scar he has on his face. He worked under the command of Director Radcliff, the former director of the GDA. We see that he went on a mission to stop Knuckle-Buster and Force Fist from launching a chemical attack via a gas that melts away people’s skin.
Even though Cecil stood his ground long enough, he was ultimately unable to stop the attack, and in a desperate attempt to save lives, put himself in harm’s way. The gas started melting his skin away but he was rescued by reinforcements just in time to save his life. Cecil was given new skin and the scar on his face is the last piece of his real skin still left intact. Cecil made a full recovery and went back into service. One day, the GDA was attacked by the Lizard League and just when Monitor Lizard was going to kill director Radcliff, Knuckle-Buster and Force Fist jumped in to save his life.
Even though Radcliff assured Cecil that they had been rehabilitated, Cecil was not willing to accept working with people who had cost 17 people their lives. In his anger, he shot both of them in the head and for this crime, was sent to prison.
How Did Cecil Become the Head of the GDA in Invincible?
Cecil was sent to a prison meant for supervillains, the worst of the worst, and it seems as if he is not going to make it. However, in the time of three years, he stayed in prison, he completely reformed the place and put a stop to all the killings that had been happening there. One day, Radcliff came to visit him and told him that he was leaving the post of the head of GDA and wanted Cecil to take his place.
He tells Cecil why he hired Knuckle-Buster and Force Fist and explains, “You can either be the good guy or the guy who saves the world, you can’t be both.”. Even though Cecil initially refused, he later agreed to become the Director of GDA. This conversation with Radcliff also explains why Cecil would hire DA Sinclair and give Darkwing a spit on the Guardians of The Globe.
Now that we know why Cecil does what he does, it makes some degree of sense regarding everything he has done in Invincible Season 3. However, it still doesn’t justify what Mark had to go through. So, what do you guys think? Is Cecil right or Mark? Let us know in the comments and till the next episode drops, stay tuned with us for more updates!
