The Witcher Season 1 stormed into Netflix in 2019 and introduced us to Henry Cavill as Geralt of Rivia. The actor ultimately became the driving force of the show, and no one could have ever imagined that The Witcher could survive without Cavill’s presence. However, it came as a nightmare when, after the third season, the actor announced his departure. He passed the torch to Liam Hemsworth, and that announcement raised more eyebrows than cheers. However, I think that the actor can really be the savior for whom The Witcher has been waiting.

Liam Hemsworth is a great actor; there’s no doubt about that. But this time, he has to fit into the grand shoes of Henry Cavill. Several fans believed that Henry Cavill was not a part of the show; in fact, he was the ‘show.’ That’s the primary reason why fans never wanted to see anyone else as Geralt of Rivia. However, let’s be honest here; despite having Henry Cavill as the lead hero, The Witcher started to teeter on the brink of sinking over time. The inconsistent narrative and the unnecessary fillers made the show seem directionless to the audience.

Additionally, Geralt began appearing as someone recognized for his intense stares rather than for what the white wolf is known for in the video game community. So, now that Liam Hemsworth has overtaken the huge role, we can expect a sort of fresh energy and enthusiasm that was lacking after the second season.

Henry Cavill became a brand after portraying the powerful and charming monster slayer in The Witcher since Season 1. So, it’s evident that the creators might have felt that, no matter where the story goes, Cavill’s star power will be the anchor for their boat. However, it seems that the audience wanted the television series to be faithful to the source material as well. Hence, the actor’s popularity couldn’t save the show for long, especially in Season 3, which began to lose the audience’s attention.

Now, let’s talk about how Liam can save the franchise when an established actor like Henry Cavill couldn’t do anything. Firstly, let’s not forget that there’s a sword hanging around the neck of the Witcher Season 4, mainly because of the recasting. So, in order to come out unscathed from this pitfall, the creators have no choice but to deliver a good story in the fourth season. The story needs to be so incredibly good that fans forget that they are not watching Henry Cavill on the screen.

Coming back to Liam, The Witcher showrunner Lauren Schmidt Hissrich revealed that Hemsworth has been a fan of the video game series for a long time. When the actor met her for the first time, she realized that he was the only one who could lead the series from the middle. She also told Netflix that he has everything that Geralt should have. No matter how differently he looks, talks, and walks, Liam would definitely make a perfect Geralt in Season 4.

Also, the major reason that makes Liam a suitable candidate for the role is that, like Cavill, he holds a passion for ‘The Witcher’ franchise. His knowledge and enthusiasm let him capture the attention of the creative directors of the show. Moreover, the way he transitioned physically to do justice to the character is worth every praise. While only a few fans are excited for The Witcher Season 4 at the moment, there are chances that things will change when Liam fully arrives on the screens as Geralt on October 30, 2025.
