Who is La Mancha in Honkai Star Rail?

Ashveil ‘La Mancha’ is the legendary leader of the Galaxy Rangers, which is one of the factions of the path of Hunt. The La Mancha is either Ashveil’s real name or a codename, like Dazzling Ninja Hero is for Rappa. The name La Mancha has been recorded in history as one of the legendary heroes and is well known throughout the Star Rail universe. Himeko even acknowledged Ashveil’s true identity, further emphasizing his legendary status.

However, La Mancha seems to have retired from his role as a Galaxy Ranger long ago, much before Boothill or Rappa joined them. According to Ashveil, out of the Galaxy Rangers that he knows are alive, one considers him a traitor, while the other considers him prey. This means that the reason La Mancha is hiding as Ashveil, a simple detective, in Honkai Star Rail Planarcadia is due to a fallout between him and the Galaxy Rangers in some way.

How Strong is Ashveil, The La Mancha in HSR

With Ashveil being a literal leader of a faction of heroes, the Galaxy Rangers, the HSR community definitely wants to know his full strength. Although it has not been revealed in the game, being the La Mancha in HSR is a clear sign that Ashveil is an Emanator of the Hunt. Being the leader of the Galaxy Rangers, one of the most powerful and notable factions in the Star Rail verse, it cannot be anything otherwise.

But if you still have your doubts, then the list of enemies Ashveil has defeated will put it to rest. According to Pearl, the shadow that is sealed in Ashveil’s right arm has devoured the following beings:

• The Swarm — Ten Amber Eras ago
• Lord Ravager Zulo, Emanator of Destruction — Ten Amber Eras ago
• Shuhu, Emanator of Abundance — 100 years ago

Pearl also mentions that the shadow Ashveil obtained was given to him by the Astral Express Navigator ‘Starseer’ Isee. This is the same navigator who was present during the fall of Akivili and the birth of Nanook. So, we can easily expect Ashveil to be ancient, and his feats easily make him an Emanator, maybe one of the strongest Emanators out there as well.

Why Did Ashveil Retire from Galaxy Rangers?

HSR La Mancha, or Ashveil, mentioned that he had retired from the Galaxy Rangers years ago and is now only living as a simple detective in Planarcadia. But why did he do so? From his other statements, like two of the Galaxy Rangers Ashveil knew considered him either a traitor or a prey, we can safely surmise that it was not an amicable decision.

So, what could have led to the fallout of La Mancha from the Galaxy Rangers in Honkai Star Rail? Although we don’t have the exact answer yet, I do have a theory. After his fight with the Daybreak Warriors, Ashveil mentioned that the taste was familiar to him, like the taste of Abundance. Later, it was confirmed that Ashveil had bitten the flesh of Abundance before, which is profoundly taboo for anyone following the Hunt.

As the Aeon of Hunt and the Aeon of Abundance have been at war for years, the factions that follow the Hunt actively take measures to defeat those who seek to become immortal. There is a possibility that biting the flesh of Abundance made Ashveil immortal as well, putting him opposite to his ideals. This would justify why other Galaxy Rangers who know about it consider him a traitor or want to hunt him down. Ashveil’s entire gimmick of sleeping in coffins like Dracula also fits with him being immortal.
