Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 gives players ample choice in how they make money. They can make Henry the noblest person in Bohemia or the ultimate thief. If you choose the latter, you must learn how to pickpocket. Besides being one of the game’s cornerstones, pickpocketing in KCD 2 is risky if you can’t pull it off. Lucky for you, we’re here. So put your worries aside and dive in as we show you how to pickpocket in Kingdom Come Deliverance 2.

Pickpocketing is very risky in KCD 2, especially in the early game. Although you can pickpocket from the very start of the game, you are only officially taught how to do it during the Materia Prima quest, which is part of the Miller quest line for the Wedding Crashers main quest. Here is a step-by-step guide on how you can pickpocket in Kingdom Come Deliverance 2.

1. Sneak Up to the NPC

The very first step of pickpocketing in Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 is to remain unnoticed while robbing people. First, make sure the person you are robbing doesn’t see you. Furthermore, do make sure the surrounding people don’t notice you too. This is important for KCD 2 players with a low Thievery skill as they can be easily caught.

Ideally, attempt to pickpocket NPCs isolated from others, drunk, or sleeping. Sneak up behind them and then attempt to pickpocket. Also, always attempt pickpocketing on stationary targets, as moving targets are much more difficult.

Most NPCs will have two pouches on them, one at the back and one at the front. Ideally, you should always target the pouch at the back as it has less chance of getting caught. Only attempt to pickpocket from the front pouch when the NPC is drunk or sleeping or you have a high enough Thievery level to go unnoticed. Look at the pouch on the NPC, and a Rob option will appear. Hold the Rob button (E on PC) to start the Pickpocketing process.

2. Gain Time for Pickpocketing in KCD 2

Once you hold the Rob button to start pickpocketing, you will see a ticking clock. This ticking clock will start counting the longer you hold the Rob button. Here are two things to keep in mind:

  • You must go past the arrow mark on the ticking clock to initiate pickpocketing.
  • The time you get here is when you have to pilfer from the pouch and exit without being detected.

But there is a catch! If you hold the ticking clock for too long, the NPC can spot your attempt at stealing. When the center of the rosette is blue, you are safe to wait. The moment it turns bright red or gets near to bright red, leave the Rob button to enter the pockets. If you keep waiting after the center turns red, the victim will spot you and call for guards.

After you have gained time and released the Rob button, you will enter the pickpocketing mini-game.

3. Pilfer Pockets in the Pickpocketing Minigame

The next phase of pickpocketing is the pocket minigame. This is where you will actually steal things from your target. The pickpocketing minigame has 12 separate pockets, with the first pocket having the door icon and a timer around it. The door pocket is where you will need to exit before the time expires to remain uncaught. The other pockets will have items in them that you can steal.

Use the right or left keys to move to the pocket with the item you want to steal, and press the Take key to select it. When you select an item, it will consume an extra portion of the gained time. So be careful when you try to take multiple items, as you will also lose time equally quickly.

Once you have selected the item you want to take, use the arrow keys to move back to the door icon and select it before the time expires to steal it successfully.

4. Hidden Pockets in Pickpocketing Minigame

During the Pickpocketing minigame, you will come across hidden pockets. These pockets won’t have an item icon on them; instead, they only show a question mark. When this happens, you can move to that pocket and press the Reveal key to reveal the content in the pocket.

Revealing pockets doesn’t consume any extra time, however, it doesn’t stop the normal timer so you are still losing some time when doing it.

After revealing a pocket, you can steal the item mentioned above. If you are looking for a specific item from the NPC and don’t see it appear in the pockets, it is likely in one of the hidden pockets.

How to Avoid Getting Caught While Pickpocketing in KCD 2

Pickpocketing in KCD 2 is a risky endeavor, but it is highly rewarding at the same time. A master thief can pickpocket keys from NPCs, avoiding the hassle of lockpicking chests or doors. But how do you become a master at pickpocketing and avoid getting caught? Here are the best tips to pickpocket in KCD 2.

1. Practice, Practice, Practice

Before you start pickpocketing merchants, nobles, or guards, you must increase your Thievery level. The best place to practice Pickpocketing is during the Materia Prima quest in the Lower Semine Mill. Here, you will meet Hired hand Hensel, who you can practice your Takedown and Pickpocketing skills on without consequences. I upgraded my Thievery level to 10 before heading out and trying it on others.

Once you have become comfortable with Pickpocketing by practicing with Hensel, try pickpocketing drunk or sleeping NPCs for more practice. These are easier to pickpocket, but there is still a chance of getting caught, so stay alert.

2. Get Pickpocket Specific Thievery Perks

Some of the Thievery Perks are absolutely necessary if you want to continue pickpocketing people. Here are some of the Thievery skills you need to get early to avoid getting caught while stealing:

  • Rapid Flight (minimum level 8): Gives one free pass at a failed pickpocketing attempt with a 3-minute cooldown.
  • Nimble Fingers (minimum level 6): Gains time 10% faster in the time-collecting phase.
  • Inconspicuous (minimum level 18): Allows you to steal from the front pouch without getting instantly detected.

The Rapid Flight skill is an absolute must to avoid getting caught the first time you make a mistake. The other perks mentioned are also great but have less importance. If you want to steal from the front pouch, you must get the Inconspicuous perk.

So that’s how you pickpocket in Kingdom Come Deliverance 2. While we know it’s a bit tricky, you will get better with practice. If you’re still having trouble, then drop your questions below, and we will try to help you out.
