What are Dynamax Pokemon in Pokemon GO
When you first encounter a Dynamax Pokemon, you’ll notice something different right away. These unique variants tower over their regular counterparts, surrounded by swirling clouds and radiating a distinctive red aura. In your collection, you can identify them by a special Dynamax symbol, and they come equipped with powerful Max Moves that set them apart from regular Pokemon.
Each Dynamax Pokemon can learn three special Max Moves:
- A powerful attack move based on your Pokemon’s Fast Attack type
- Max Spirit, which heals both your Pokemon and allies
- Max Guard, which reduces damage from Power Spot Bosses
To strengthen your Dynamax Pokemon, you’ll need to invest in Max Particles to unlock and level up these Max Moves. Each upgrade not only increases their power but also rewards you with XP.
How to Get Dyanamax Pokemon in Pokemon GO
- “To the Max!” Special Research: The easiest way to begin your Dynamax adventure is through the “To the Max!” special research quest. This quest is specifically designed to introduce you to the Dynamax mechanics, rewarding you with two starter Dynamax Pokemon: Wooloo and Skwovet. These initial Pokemon will be crucial for your journey, as you’ll need at least one Dynamax Pokemon to participate in Max Battles.

You can collect these by interacting with Power Spots throughout the world (with bonus particles awarded for your first daily interaction). - Win Max Battles: Max Battles at Power Spots are your primary source for catching new Dynamax Pokemon. These battles require 250 Max Particles to enter and can be tackled with up to four trainers. During the battle, you’ll build energy through Fast and Charged attacks while collecting energy icons from the battlefield. Once your meter fills, your Pokemon will Dynamax for three turns. Once you can defeat the Pokemon, you will get a chance to catch it.
