Fighting an Aged One in Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree

While most of you already know, let me educate the unaware. The Elden Ring Abyssal monsters can be found roaming the well, Abyssal Woods in the game. They are also known as the Aged Ones. If you’re still not there, learn how to reach Abyssal Woods easily. Do note that you must beat Jori, Elder Inquisitor in Elden Ring.

You will find the Elden Ring eye monsters roaming around a particular section. Before you encounter them, you’ll see a few messages on the ground. One look at them explains how you can’t kill these enemies and must walk around them stealthily. And it is true; if you try to take them head-on, they’ll grab you and instantly kill you by madness.

So you don’t have a choice but to use that stealth mechanic to hide through the bushes and ignore them. However, you can kill the Aged Ones in the Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree. And while it does require some finesse to pull it off, it is relatively simple.

How to Kill the Abyssal Woods Eye Monsters in Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree

How do you kill the Aged Ones in the Abyssal Woods of Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree? The answer lies in parrying. So it seems the only natural way to kill these Aged Ones in Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree is through parrying. Unlike the game telling you to avoid them, parrying is the only natural way to kill them.

So, if you have a shield that allows for parrying, pull that out. Then, parry the wand attack of the Aged Ones. It is the one where they use their glowing wand to capture you and instantly kill you.

Once you parry the Abyssal woods monsters, attack them. You might have to do it twice, depending on your weapon. However, killing them will permanently make them vanish from Abyssal Woods. Furthermore, you get two confirmed rewards.

Abyssal Woods Eye Monsters Rewards

You can receive two items for your hard work defeating these pesky enemies. One is the Aged One’s Exultation, a brand-new Talisman in the game. Aged One’s Exultation raises your attack power when there’s madness in the vicinity. You can also take out the other Aged Ones better while wearing this Talisman. It also helps fight Midra, Lord of Frenzied Flame.

And if you beat another of the Aged Ones, you can get a rare crafting item called Swollen Grape. While I have not found an application for this item, it is extremely rare in-game. Furthermore, with the limited availability of these enemies, I feel it helps us create something vital. Once I find its application, I’ll share the details.

The Abyssal Woods monsters reaffirm my point that Elden Ring is all about exploring and figuring things out. If my friend weren’t curious and didn’t try parrying the Aged Ones, I probably wouldn’t even know about doing it.

And that is what makes me love these games. Of course, difficulty is a subjective topic and something worth discussing another day. A shout out to my friend for discovering and sharing it with me and my friends.
