All Ghast Variants in Minecraft and How to Get Them

The Minecraft Summer Drop 2025 is bringing brand new variants of the huge pale Ghasts found in the Nether dimension. Unlike the usual ones that are hostile towards the players and shoot fireballs at them, these creatures are rather friendly and won’t cause you any harm even when you hit them. The best thing about one such variant is that it opens up a new mode of transport in Minecraft, too! So if you want to know what all they are, hop on as we show you all ghast variants in Minecraft and how to get them.

All Minecraft Ghast Variants

The upcoming Minecraft Summer Drop 2025 features have worked up all the crafters, and one of the prime reasons for that is the introduction of the new variants of ghasts in the game. However, getting these might not be really beginner-friendly, as you need to visit the Nether dimension.

Before you venture below, make sure you have proper gear like a golden helmet and at least a complete set of iron armor to save yourself from the perils of the Nether mobs like Skeletons and Piglins. With that said, check out the following variants of the ghasts you can get in Minecraft:

1. Dried Ghast Block

The dried ghasts are not the type of Minecraft mobs you generally see in the game. This is because they don’t move around at all. This one is specified as a block and, similar to others, you can mine and pick it up even with your hands.

You can get a dried ghast block from 8 Ghast Tears and a Souls Sand block, or barter with a Piglin using gold to have a very slight chance at getting this block. However, for the easiest ways, follow our guide linked above.

2. Ghastling

As you waterlog the dried ghast block, its expressions will change from sad and grumpy to a smiling face in a total of 20 minutes. Once done, you get a small, cute, and fluffy ghastling. This one won’t really do a lot right now since it’s a baby. Moreover, you’ll notice that its gills or ears on either side of its face have still not yet developed and are red in color.

The ghastling identifies as a mob, and you can feed it snowballs in Minecraft to speed up its growth. Once the ghastling grows up, this ghast variant will evolve into a happy ghast. As the process might take a bit, you can go AFK or just leash it to a fence using a lead in Minecraft.

3. Happy Ghast

Finally, when all else is done, your friend will grow up to be a happy ghast. These passive mobs are one of the best additions to the game and the final new ghast variant in Minecraft.

However, besides its cute looks, the happy ghast brings a new way of moving, as you can easily ride it and fly around the Minecraft map. All you need is a simple harness, equip it for your happy ghast, and again click on it to ride it.

Furthermore, you can use the lead on the happy ghast and connect it either with a heavier mob like a horse or Sniffer, or even attach it to a boat to carry a couple of villagers to your base. This way, mob transportation has become much easier than before.

4. Ghast

Finally, we have the old and rusty regular Ghasts that have been in Minecraft for a long time. These are native to the Nether dimension. However, they are most commonly found in the Nether Wastes, Soul Sand Valleys, Basalt Deltas, or near Bastion Remnants.

However, like their other variants above, these aren’t friendly. So be careful when navigating the Nether on top of a bridge, and you spot a ghast approaching you. Once it spots you, it’ll blast fireballs that can easily cause you to fall from the bridge if you cannot shield yourself.

One way to defend yourself once and for all is to deflect the same fireball towards the ghast, and it’ll kill them instantly, dropping ghast tears and gunpowder. In the upcoming Minecraft 1.21.6 update, you can get the Tears Music Disc by using this method.

So, these are all ghast variants in Minecraft, and now you know who you can make a pet and carry with you on your adventures. Which color of harness are you using right now in the latest snapshots? Let us know in the comments below!
