Genshin Impact is filled with mystical creatures, including Dragons. Dragons are considered the native beings and rulers of Teyvat and were eventually killed after the outsiders arrived. Among the known dragons of Teyvat, Durin is distinctly different as he is a humus, meaning he was artificially created. With Archon Quest — Paralogism in Genshin Impact version 5.6 centering around Durin and Albedo, it is a good time to refresh our memory of Durin’s lore in the game.
Who is Durin in Genshin Impact?

Durin is a shadow dragon, officially termed as Humus. He was artificially created by Rhinedottir of Khaenri’ah around 500 years ago during the cataclysm. The blood of Durin was extremely toxic and contained the power of the Abyss, which corrupted everything around it.
At the time of the cataclysm, Durin invaded Mondstadt and was then slain by the storm dragon Dvalin and the Anemo Archon Barbatos, who we now know as Venti. The tragic part here is that Durin had a gentle heart, and he failed to realize the destructive nature of his powers.
Durin saw himself as singing and dancing with Dvalin and the people of Mondstadt, when he was actually rampaging through the city. When he was finally slain by Dvalin, his corpse landed in Dragonspine.

His corrupted blood soaked into the Ley Lines of Dragonspine, reviving the Frostbearing tree. Durin’s heart remained active in Dragonspine, while his life energy directly flooded into the Dragonspine valley.
After some time, Durin’s heart would start manifesting new monsters that could take the form of other humans. These monsters eventually infiltrate Mondstadt and try to falsely accuse Albedo of murder. Albedo had already caught onto their plans and created a trap with the heads of the Knights of Favonius.

Finally, Albedo would extract the core from Durin’s heart and use it to transform Mini Durin into a human, reviving Durin into a much more docile form.
Mini Durin’s Resurrection as a Human Explained
During the Archon quest ‘Paralogism’ in Genshin Impact 5.6, we come to an interesting scene where Albedo transforms the mini Durin into a human form using the core of Durin’s heart.
With Durin’s heart corrupting Dragonspine every day and revitalizing itself, Albedo realized that it was only a matter of time before Durin returned to full power. Although killing Durin would have solved the issue for the moment, Albedo also knew that Dragons never truly die and resurrect over a period of time.

Thus, to avoid Durin’s resurrection or return to power, Albedo devised a plan to revive Durin while keeping Mini Durin as the soul. Mini Durin was created by Andersdotter based on the real-life Durin. But unlike Durin, Mini Durin was able to have a much happier ending by turning himself small to be less threatening to the people of Simulanka.
Albedo’s plan was to use Mini Durin’s good nature to cancel out Durin’s destructive tendencies. To top it all off, Albedo also decided to use Alchemy and transform them into a Human. This way, the newly revived Durin would be much less threatening and devastating to its surroundings.
So, that’s everything we currently know about Durin, updated with the information from Genshin Impact 5.6. Durin’s transformation into a human leaves a lot more questions to be answered; the biggest being whether Durin will be playable in Genshin Impact or not.
