Galaxy S9, S9+Update Brings Dual VoLTE, Native Call Recording and More AR Emojis

Samsung Galaxy S9 Plus Receives Highest Rated Score on DxOMark

Samsung has started rolling out an important update to its Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9 Plus smartphones in India. The incoming software brings some functionality enhancements, stability improvements, bug fixes and performance tweaks to the two devices. First things first, Samsung is rolling out the May 2018 security patch to the two devices as part of the new update. In addition to that, the devices are also receiving native call-recording support.

However, what really stands out is the dual-VoLTE support that would now allow users to run two VoLTE networks simultaneously on the dual-SIM variants. Users will also be able to choose either of those two networks as their preferred data network. Till now, a dual-SIM user could use VoLTE on only one of the two available SIMs and also had to use that particular network as their preferred data network.

As can be seen from the attached screenshots, the update for the Galaxy S9+ comes with build number G965FXXU1BRE5/G965FOXM1BRE3/G965FXXU1BRE3, while the update for the Galaxy S9 comes with build number G960FXXU1BRE5/G960FOXM1BRE3/G960FXXU1BRE3. While the Galaxy S9 update is 397.26MB in size, the Galaxy S9+ update weighs in at 426.25MB.

The update is being rolled out over-the-air (OTA), and should reach all users in the coming days. If you use either of the two devices, you will be automatically notified of the incoming update, but you can also check for the availability of the new software manually by going over to Settings > Software Update > Download update.

The update also brings 18 new AR Emoji stickers that add a fun element to messaging, and allow users to inject emotions into messages. Thus far, only 18 AR Emoji stickers were available on the two phones, which means the number has doubled now.
