In Short
  • Fortnite Sprite Trading is a method where players can exchange rare sprites between themselves at their discretion.
  • Safest methods to trade Sprites in Fortnite include Discord servers and Reddit threads with real players.
  • You can also buy Fortnite Sprites for real money online, but proceed at your own risk.

Fortnite Sprites Trading has taken off as these little back-bling buddies have, in many ways, become the heart and soul of the community. Players will fight tooth and nail to secure and subsequently extract them to add them to their collection or to ensure their Mastered Sprite makes it out of the fight.

This is easier said than done, as even finding the rarest Sprites is a rather Herculean task for the average player. To curb this, many have resorted to alternative means of acquiring these tiny elemental critters: Fortnite Sprite Trading. Here’s what you need to know about Fortnite Sprite trading and the do’s and don’ts revolving around it.

Sprite Trading in Fortnite has become the equivalent of trading Pokemon in Pokemon Go, with the exception that there’s no actual way to conduct a licit trade without being in a grey area of sorts. While not illegal, things have recently taken a turn for the worse as Sprites (which can be obtained for free) are now being listed for sale on sites such as eBay and Gameflip at steep prices.

Taking into account that this most definitely breaks several rules, it’s safe to say that staying away from fraudulent and dubious trade deals online is probably for the best. Of course, this means that you’ll have to score a goal in the middle of combat to get the Striker Sprite in Fortnite, but it’ll be worth the effort.

How to Safely Trade Sprites in Fortnite

Seeing as the demand for rare Fortnite Sprites is rather high, the community took it upon themselves to establish a pseudo exchange of sorts to help players complete their collection. The FortNiteBR Reddit Community is actively promoting the “safe” trade of Sprites between players.

They’ve even laid down some ground rules as follows: All trades must be for Sprites – no incentives, V-Bucks, add-on gifts, etc. Another major player, the Sprite Trading HQ Discord Server, has similar rules in place. If nothing else, at least the community is clearly against monetary gain when it comes to trading Sprites in Fortnite.

Here’s a rough rundown of how trading Sprites in Fortnite words: You find a player who has a Sprite you want, and they need. You add each other on Epic Games. Hop into a match as teammates. Exchange Sprites at an Extraction Site or use one of the fancy Fortnite Extraction Gizmos. Return to the lobby (or claim a Victory Royale). Lastly, head to your collection to see the newly added Sprite.

It’s simple enough, but there are a few things that could go wrong, and you should be aware of these. Here are a few examples:

  • You could get griefed by your teammate, who uses Shockwave Grenades, potentially pushing you into the Storm to eliminate you before the trade and/or extraction is complete.
  • You could get tricked into dropping your Sprite without getting any return.
  • You could get third-partied or ambushed at the Extraction Site, resulting in you and your trade partner losing your Sprites. This hits hard if you both have Mastered Sprites.
  • You could be given the wrong Sprite in a hurry, and you’ll be left with something you didn’t need or already have.

All of these aforementioned scenarios are plausible, but the downside is very minimal. If you lose your Sprite, you can always purchase it back using Sprite Dust. It’s a minor setback at most, and you can always try your luck with another player to fulfil the initial trade.

That said, it is best to trade Sprites with friends or obtain them by eliminating opponents, or try your luck searching Fortnite Sprite Chests to find what you need. All in all, keep in mind that Epic Games will bear no responsibility for the loss of your Sprite; you can check the fine print in their Fortnite ToS section.

Do Not Use This Fortnite Sprite Trading Method

If you feel that collecting Sprites (that someone may want) and trading them (for something you may need) is too time-consuming or a laborious task, you could always buy Sprites using real money.

Sounds great, but it’s probably illegal, and you could get scammed. Granted, there’s no way to trace these transactions; Epic Games wouldn’t know you paid someone to obtain a rare Sprite, which is great. The flipside is that Epic Games will not be accountable if you get swindled out of your money.

  • Fortnite Sprites being sold on Gameflip
  • Fortnite Sprites being sold on eBay

Since you can’t outright “buy or purchase” Sprites, once you pay the concerned party, it’s based on good faith and trust that they’ll contact you, add you in-game, load into a match, and conduct the trade.

Besides this risk factor, since Epic Games is not affiliated with the online buying/selling of and/or trading of Sprites, which could violate ToS if you somehow get reported. Avoid online transactions unless you want Runners to be your last Season on your current account.
