Final Destination: Bloodlines has finally arrived on the big screens, and trust me when I say this, it is worth every penny. Unlike the previous films, Bloodlines serves as a journey that will stay with you for days. You get introduced to a “cursed” bloodline that wasn’t supposed to exist, so death sets traps, knocking the family members out one by one in the order they were born. For instance, the gruesome killings start with the older Iris, who has escaped death for several years, and end with Charlie, the youngest member of the bloodline. As good as the movie is, the ending is also significant. Here’s what happens in Final Destination Bloodlines’ ending.
Spoiler Warning: The text below will spoil the movie for you if you haven’t watched it already. Proceed with caution.
Where It All Began?

It all started with a young Iris who was looking forward to spending a good evening with her boyfriend Paul Campbell at the famous Sky Tower restaurant, situated on top of the tallest building. Iris had a premonition that the restaurant would collapse and be set on fire within a few minutes, and everyone present there would die, the last ones being her and a young child. However, instead of panicking, she decided to act quickly, so she rushed inside and ended up saving the lives that were supposed to perish that day.
The film then cuts to Stefanie, who has been seeing the Sky Tower sequence as a nightmare every night for the last two months. The strange part about the nightmares was that Stefanie never met Iris, despite being her granddaughter, so obviously she wasn’t attached to her.
Stefanie approached her maternal uncle, Howard, to ask if he had any information about Iris. Howard shut her down by saying that Iris was a mother who ruined her kids’ lives, and no one is in touch with her anymore, so she should just forget about her. However, after insisting a lot, Howard’s wife, Brenda, tells her about the drawer where all the letters written by Iris were kept.
Following the lead from the letters, Stefanie arrived at the cabin where Iris had been holed up all these years. She discovered the story that Iris had been holding up in her heart throughout. Apparently, Iris saw into the future and prevented all the deaths. Interestingly, the young child she saved was JB (John Bludworth), the significant character who appeared in all of the Final Destination movies.
Iris also tells Stef that the death chased down every single person from the Sky Tower incident, including her husband. However, Iris isolated herself and prevented death from getting to them all these years. Apparently, if Iris does, then her entire bloodline will also die. She was supposed to die at the Sky Tower, so in a sense, she isn’t supposed to be alive, and her children aren’t supposed to exist.
Iris then showed Stefanie the book containing all her research work, which she had done to keep death away from her and her descendants. However, Iris got afraid and rushed out of the cabin. This time, Iris was in the mood to make someone from her bloodline see the truth, so she followed her granddaughter and stepped out. That was the biggest mistake of her life, as death didn’t take long to show its presence and kill Iris.
Why did Iris rush out knowing very well that she would die? Unfortunately, she was suffering from cancer, so she would die anyway. So, before dying, she wanted to hand over her research to Stef so they would have a chance at survival.
The Battle to Escape Death
Following Iris’s death, a series of brutal deaths began. Stefanie studied the book that her grandmother had handed over before her passing. However, before she could make the first attempt, Howard was killed by a lawn mower. After that, death started following every member of the Campbell bloodline except Erik because, interestingly, he wasn’t Howard’s biological son. Eventually, death gets to everyone in Howard’s bloodline, starting with his elder daughter, Julia, who gets brutally crushed by a garbage vehicle.
Stefanie finally realized that it was the cabin that kept Iris alive, so she decided to drive Darlene and Charlie there to protect the remaining biological family. However, when they reached there, the cabin exploded, severely injuring Darlene, who was later killed by the falling lamppost. Charlie brings an unconscious Stefanie back to her conscious state, thinking that he brought her back from the dead, and now the curse is finally over. However, later, the doctor father of Charlie’s girlfriend reveals that if Charlie could revive her by giving her CPR, Stefanie wasn’t dead, she was just unconscious.
Just when the brother-sister duo realized that it’s still not over, a train breaks onto the street and kills both of them instantly. Also, after Stef and Charlie, the death will go after JB, since he was supposed to die after Iris on the Sky Tower. However, his death is only implied and not shown in the movie. Interestingly, JB knew about all this because Iris located him after the Sky Tower incident and made him aware of the death. He survived all these years because the person who was supposed to die before him, Iris, was still alive. Death can do everything, but it can’t disrupt the “order.”
Why did Death Go After Erik?
Erik wasn’t supposed to die, but they say, ‘if you f*** with death’s plans, things get messy.’ He was just an elder brother who wanted his younger brother to live a long life. After meeting JB in the hospital, Erik and Bobby learn that there are two ways to trick death: either kill someone and steal their remaining lifespan, or you die and get revived by someone (The reason why Charlie and Stef thought they were safe, thinking that Charlie brought his sister back from the dead). Instead of taking the first path, Erik decided to make Bobby die and get revived again, as they were in the hospital.
He gave Bobby peanut cups to eat, even after knowing how deadly the peanut allergy is to Bobby. However, things don’t go as planned, and before Bobby, Erik gets killed, and to be honest, no death in the series matched the brutality level. So, even though Erik wasn’t supposed to die, he died because he was helping Bobby cheat death.
