Fallout Season 2 Timeline Explained: Where Does Season 2 Fit in Fallout Games?

In Short
  • Fallout Season 2 does not fit in the timeline of Fallout: New Vegas or any other Fallout game.
  • Fallout Season 2 takes place in 2296, while Fallout: New Vegas was set in 2281, so it happens years after the events of the game.
  • However, factions like The Great Khans from Fallout: New Vegas will be seen in Fallout Season 2.

After a substantial wait, Fallout is coming back to our screens with its Season 2. Now, this season is rather special for gamers who were once hooked to the expansive lore and landscape of Fallout: New Vegas, as this new season is all set to take us back to the map most of us would be familiar with. Even though this is enough to have the fans hyped, it would be even better to know where exactly Fallout Season 2 fits in the original game’s timeline. So, without any further delay, let’s get our timelines in check.

While it would be amazing to be able to draw parallels between the Fallout series and the original game, the timeline does not allow it. The events of Fallout: New Vegas are set in 2281, while Fallout Season 2 takes place in 2296, so the game’s timeline and that of the show do not cross each other in any way or form.

Even though the series might not take into account the timeline followed by the games, it is confirmed that we will get to see certain factions we have seen previously in the games. Factions like the Great Khans will be seen in Season 2, and the chances are we will get to see factions like Powder Gangers and Jackals as well.

Is Fallout: New Vegas’s Ending Canon to Fallout Season 2?

Fallout Season 2 is here, and we have already established that it does not fall anywhere near the game’s timeline. Now, you must think that it would make the ending of Fallout New Vegas canon, well, not exactly. In a recent interview, Maximus actor Aron Moten confirmed that none of the 4 endings of Fallout: New Vegas will be canon to Fallout Season 2.

He revealed that he and showrunner Geneva Robertson-Dworet had a conversation regarding this, and came to the conclusion that the perspective is rather dynamic, depending on whose POV we are looking at. Fallout, since Season 1, has played it both safe and smart by taking the required elements to make the series “Fallout” and creating an entirely new story.

So, with that being said, if you were worried about playing a certain game from the franchise to make sure you understand what’s happening in Fallout Season 2, this must come as a relief.
