2024 saw the release of many fantastic TV shows, such as Shōgun, Fallout, 3 Body Problem, The Bear, etc., that kept the fans entertained throughout the year. That said, here are Beebom’s picks for the main categories of the Emmy Awards 2024:

Outstanding Drama Series

  • 3 Body Problem
  • Fallout
  • Mr. and Mrs. Smith
  • Shōgun (WINNER)
  • Slow Horses
  • The Crown
  • The Gilded Age
  • The Morning Show

When Shōgun started airing at the start of 2024, it quickly rose up to the best ongoing TV show of 2024. As the episodes went by, the show ended on a very high note and cemented its position as one of the greatest TV shows of all time. The immense success of FX’s historical show led to Shōgun getting renewed for a second season even though the source material has been completely adapted in a single season. This speaks volumes about people’s and critics’ love for this show, and I’m sure FX will walk home with not just the Outstanding Drama Series award but many more as well.

Outstanding Comedy Series

  • Abbott Elementary
  • Curb Your Enthusiasm
  • Hacks
  • Only Murders in the Building
  • Palm Royale
  • Reservation Dogs
  • The Bear (WINNER)
  • What We Do in the Shadows

FX’s The Bear has become a sensation over the years and has amassed millions of fans across the world. It should be noted that the show’s greatest season i.e., season 2 is going head to head instead of season 3 (as it aired in summer 2024) against all the other comedy shows. Therefore, I believe the other comedy series is going to have a hard time at the awards against the masterpiece season of The Bear.

Outstanding Limited Or Anthology Series

  • Baby Reindeer (WINNER)
  • Fargo
  • Lessons in Chemistry
  • Ripley
  • True Detective: Night Country

The critically acclaimed Baby Reindeer was a phenomenal limited series by Netflix that drew the big attention of fans earlier this year. What’s more surprising is the fact that this show was based on the real-life events of a comedian named Richard Gadd. With exceptional performances, the series truly terrified the viewers. Thus, based on the show’s great success with critics and fans alike along with its enormous popularity, Netflix will get a big win in their books with Baby Reindeer for sure.

Outstanding Lead Actor In A Drama Series

  • Idris Elba, Hijack
  • Donald Glover, Mr. and Mrs. Smith
  • Walton Goggins, Fallout
  • Gary Oldman, Slow Horses
  • Hiroyuki Sanada, Shōgun (WINNER)
  • Dominic West, The Crown

Undoubtedly, the year 2024 belongs to Shōgun and so do all the awards it takes part in. Hiroyuki Sanada has been part of the Hollywood for a long time. He gave his career-best performance as Lord Yoshi Toranaga in Shōgun and has won the hearts of the fans all over again. I’m feeling sad for the rest of the nominees here as Hiroyuki Sanada’s exemplary performance will earn him his deserved first Emmy award.

Outstanding Lead Actress In A Drama Series

  • Jennifer Aniston, The Morning Show
  • Carrie Coon, The Gilded Age
  • Maya Erskine, Mr. and Mrs. Smith
  • Anna Sawai, Shōgun (WINNER)
  • Imelda Staunton, The Crown
  • Reese Witherspoon, The Morning Show

Anna Sawai’s portrayal of the emotionally complex character, Toda Mariko, in Shōgun was applauded by every single viewer. Her performance was one of the strongest pillars of this show which made it special in every way. Thus, the fan-favorite Japanese actress will triumph over her fellow actresses and get her well-deserved first Emmy award.

Outstanding Lead Actor In A Comedy Series

  • Matt Berry, What We Do in the Shadows
  • Larry David, Curb Your Enthusiasm
  • Steve Martin, Only Murders in the Building
  • Martin Short, Only Murders in the Building
  • Jeremy Allen White, The Bear (WINNER)
  • D’Pharaoh Woon-A-Tai, Reservation Dogs

Jeremy Allen White soared high as Carmen ‘Carmy’ Berzatto since day 1 of the show and has become one of the cherished actors of this generation. Jeremy did justice as Carmen in the second season of The Bear. Thus, yes chef! our favorite Jeremy is the prime candidate to win the best actor in a comedy series in a row.

Outstanding Lead Actress In A Comedy Series

  • Quinta Brunson, Abbott Elementary
  • Ayo Edebiri, The Bear (WINNER)
  • Selena Gomez, Only Murders in the Building
  • Maya Rudolph, Loot
  • Jean Smart, Hacks
  • Kristen Wiig, Palm Royale

This time Ayo Edebiri has been nominated for the lead actress category after winning the Outstanding Supporting Actress last year. I think it’s going to be a tough battle between Jean Smart and Ayo Edebri as both of them offered strong performances in their respective show. However, I’m going with Ayo Edebiri this time as the actress wonderfully played the part of Sydney Adamu who received a lot of character development in season 2.

That wraps up our picks for the winners of the Emmy Awards 2024. It still feels surreal that we are getting two Emmys in a single year.
