Dandadan has returned with its much-awaited Season 2, and the latest season surprised the fandom with the introduction of the Evil Eye. This powerful Yokai has created a lot of problems for Jiji in the past, and he has no plans of stopping now. This makes us wonder: who exactly is the Evil Eye in Dandadan, and why does he want Jiji out of all people? Well, here are all the answers you are looking for.
Who Is the Evil Eye in Dandadan?

Evil Eye is the yokai who serves as the major antagonist in the Cursed Home Arc and the main villain in the Evil Eye Arc in Dandadan. The vengeful spirit debuts in Dandadan when the Mongolian Death Worm attacks Momo, Okarun, and Jiju. However, the yokai wasn’t saving these human kids because he was a good spirit; he protected them from falling prey to the maniacal worm because he had other plans.
Evil Eye was the product of the Kito family’s past sins, and because of the psychopathic family, the yokai wanted to kill every human who would cross paths with them.
When Jiji lived with his parents in the village home, he always felt that something was amiss about the place. However, his parents never listened to him whenever he tried to explain that a dark shadow resided with them in the home.
However, no one truly knew who the Evil Eye was until the yokai himself decided to reveal his tragic past to Jiji. He was a naive kid who fell prey to the Kito family’s sacrificial beliefs. The sadistic family imprisoned the boy in a small room, from where he used to sneak out of the window and find solace in watching other children play. He just wanted to play with the other kids once, but there was no one to help him out. The Kito family didn’t give him food or water, so he almost died due to starvation. Later, the psychopaths burned him alive.
Years later, when he reappeared as a spirit in the village, he could be seen only by the children. However, the ones who saw him had to have seen their parents commit suicide. So, when the head of the Kito family chose one such child who had recently lost his parents, she decided to sacrifice him. Evil Eye tried to set him free, but he was a spirit who could not touch anybody, so he failed. That’s when things took a dark turn for him, and he transformed into a yokai who had no expectations from the humans.
Why Did the Evil Eye Possess Jiji?
Evil Eye was a yokai who flourished on psychic energies, and as Turbo Granny made us recall in Dandadan Season 2 Episode 2, Jiji had an incredible psychic energy from the beginning, making him one of the best vessels for the vengeful spirit. Besides that, the boy had been super athletic, giving him an additional point to attract a yokai towards him. When Jiji entered the Kito family’s sacrificial house, the Evil Eye sensed his psychic abilities, and it had wanted to use him as a vessel for a long time. However, he couldn’t do that until Jiji himself surrendered.
Feeling empathetic towards the yokai, Jiji approached the human body of the Evil Eye, bound beneath his village home. When he found the yokai’s body, Jiji offered to be his playmate, and that’s when the Evil Eye got the perfect opportunity to possess him.
The Evil Eye’s Powers and Abilities Explained
The Evil Eye’s main power lies in its eyes; it can make anyone develop suicidal thoughts with direct eye contact. He also has the ability to share his memory by sharing a glance; well, that’s what he did with Jiji to gain his sympathy. Besides that, he has some grudge-based powers like Grudge Construction and Grudge Ball. The former is the malevolent energy that the yokai uses to torture the victim, or forcing them to become a venegful spirit themselves; the latter is a ball that the Evil Eye uses to attack the opponent.
