Gameplay Walkthrough and Tips

Crimson Desert is a massive game, and many of the game’s mechanics can be hard to understand. So, here we have given some gameplay tips and tricks to get you started:
- Invest in Stamina points: Exploration is key, and you need stamina and movement speed to do it effectively. So, invest in Stamina points early, which also comes with the added benefit of swinging a lot more in fights.
- Get a fast mount quickly: The game has a massive map, and moving from one place to another can be a chore early on. Getting yourself a good mount early can be a massive advantage for the rest of the game.
- Don’t get fixated and explore: Crimson Desert difficulty settings cannot be changed and only have one difficulty. So expect to get stuck on some bosses. But instead of hitting your head against the wall for an eventual breakthrough, explore other areas to get stronger instead.

Characters

Crimson Desert has three playable characters, with Kliff Mcduff being the primary protagonist. Kliff is the ‘play as you like’ character, a jack-of-all-trades, allowing players to choose the playstyle they prefer. Other than Kliff, we have Damiane and Oongka, two surviving Greymanes who are playable in the game.
Damiane is a tall red-headed female character who equips a Greatsword, Rapier, Rifle, and Pistol as weapons. She is very agile and can quickly switch between her weapons. Oongka, on the other hand, is a strong Orc with a burly figure, long hair, and a thick beard. He wields a two-handed Axe and a hand cannon. Character Progression and Skills
Crimson Desert has no XP system, which is often considered a baseline aspect of RPG games. Instead, the game follows an exploration-based character progression path. To unlock abilities or specific skills in the game, you have to explore a specific area, defeat a specific enemy, or complete a specific puzzle. Other than that, you can use Abyss Artifacts, which can be obtained by completing quests, defeating a large number of normal enemies, or defeating bosses.
This allows complete freedom to play progression, allowing players to move and explore in the direction they want to grab the abilities from in the game. Most of the major abilities in Crimson Desert, like the ability to fly, are tied to bosses and main quests. But many skills can be learned by simply observing others. Pywel Map

Crimson Desert has a massive map, said to be twice the size of Skyrim and bigger than Red Dead Redemption 2. It is roughly the size of 30 to 42 square miles or 80 to 110 square kilometers. The continent of Pywel, where the story of Crimson Desert takes place, is divided into six major regions. These regions are Hernand, Pailune, Demeniss, Delesyia, The Crimson Desert, and The Abyss.
The Hernand is where the Crimson Desert journey starts for players. It is the land of lush green fields and big and small cities. Next is Pailune, a harsh mountainous land with snowy terrain, and also where the Greymanes come from. Third is Demeniss, the power capital of Pywel. Then there is Delesyia, the scientifically advanced region. Finally, there is The Crimson Desert, a region named after the game. It is a barren desert with crimson sand, and the place is completely lawless. The Abyss is a mysterious location that is located in a separate dimension.
The game does have fast travel points, alongside other ways to traverse the land quickly, like mounts and movement abilities like flying and gliding. Check our Crimson Desert map guides to learn more about the game’s exploration and fast travel mechanics:

Combat and Weapons

The combat in Crimson Desert is the highlight of the game. The game perfectly mixes spells, elemental infusing abilities, weapons, and environmental factors to bring the combat to life. Players can deal damage with different elements to apply specific status effects on enemies, use a hundred different movement abilities to dodge attacks, or grab a big pillar in the environment to slam on enemies. The options are pretty limitless when it comes to Crimson Desert’s combat.
Crimson Desert also has a huge variety of weapon types. There are five main categories of weapons: one-handed, two-handed, ranged, unarmed, and mounts. These include the following weapon types: Sword, Shield, Dagger, Rapier, Spear, Greatsword, Axes, Hammer, Bow, Pistol, Rifle, Hand Cannon, Unarmed and Grapple, and Mounted combat.
Weapons can be obtained by purchasing them from vendors, looting chests, or as boss and enemy loot drops. Players can upgrade their weapons by interacting with a blacksmith, found in any of the major cities. Alongside blacksmiths, there are also Abyss Gears, which can be slotted into weapons to increase their base stats. Here are all the Crimson Desert combat and weapon guides for you:

Mounts

There are 9 different Crimson Desert mounts, which include everything from horses, bears, raptors, lizards, dragons, mechs, and even direwolves. Mounts in Crimson Desert are great for traversing the land of Pywel and exploring each nook and cranny. But that’s not all, as mounts can also be used in combat. Most mounts have unique attacks in combat.
For example, the bear slashes with its claws and bites enemies, while the dragon can set everything up in flames. There is also a dwarven-engineered mech that can shoot missiles with devastating damage to enemies.
When it comes to obtaining mounts, some can be obtained via completing missions, while others are tied to combat encounters. There is also a mount taming mechanic that can be used to tame wild horses. Here are more Crimson Desert mount guides you can check out:
Bosses

Crimson Desert has a total of 76 bosses, each with a distinct set of abilities and moveset. So far, we have quite a few Crimson Desert bosses in the game, but there are a lot more that we have yet to find.
Bosses not only act as an interesting challenge, but they also act as gatekeepers to specific abilities. As the game doesn’t have XP and relies on exploration to progress character strength, a large number of important skills and abilities are locked behind boss fights.
Other than skills, bosses also drop unique weapons and Abyss artifacts that can be used to increase the core stats of a character. Here are all Crimson Desert boss guides that you can check out to learn more about them:

Quests

Crimson Desert has been confirmed to have 430 quests, including main and side missions. The game has 14 chapters for the main questline, each of them having multiple quests. Here are all the chapters for Crimson Desert:
- Prologue: Dead of Night
- Chapter 1: The First Encounter
- Chapter 2: Golden Greed
- Chapter 3: Howling Hill
- Chapter 4: The Price of Knowledge
- Chapter 5: Guest Unbidden
- Chapter 6: Cracks in the Shield
- Chapter 7: Homecoming
- Chapter 8: Blood Coronation
- Chapter 9: The Sage of the Desert
- Chapter 10: Counterattack
- Chapter 11: Truth and Reality
- Chapter 12: The Abyss
- Epilogue: Journey’s End
Many of the quests are said to be tied to bosses or specific abilities, making it very important to complete them in order to progress your character. A good thing about Crimson Desert quests is that you don’t obtain them randomly. Players have to go around and speak with NPCs to get missions, and the wildest of missions can be found in the most inconspicious of locations. Trophies and Achievements

Crimson Desert has 35 trophies and achievements in total. The list of Crimson Desert trophies and achievements has been revealed, and they are quite tricky. Most of the trophies are related to completing challenges in the game, while some are tied to the main quests and bosses.
Visuals

Crimson Desert looks absolutely fantastic, having some of the best visuals we have seen in RPG games in years. The game has incredibly long view distances, and every location appears as a painting due to the outstanding backdrop of the huge variety of biomes available in the game. Crimson Desert has four major biomes, including tundra, desert, rocky hills, and lush green valley.
There is also a day and night cycle and a season cycle in Crimson Desert that looks incredible. The nighttime in Crimson Desert is truly dark, very similar to Dragon’s Dogma, and you really need a light source like the lantern to continue exploring at night.
Pre-Order Bonuses and Editions

Crimson Desert pre-order was available on all supported platforms. Pre-ordering any edition of the game would have gotten you the exclusive Khaled Shield. Crimson Desert has two main editions: Standard and Deluxe. The standard edition only gives access to the game, while the deluxe edition gives access to additional exclusive items like the Kairos Plate set, Balgran Shield, and Exclair Horse Tack set.

The pre-order bonuses and the deluxe edition goodies are exclusive items, so they won’t be obtainable through exploration in the game. The standard edition is priced at $69.99, and the deluxe edition is priced at $79.99.

System Requirements

Crimson Desert is a game of epic proportions, which obviously raises questions about performance. Thankfully, the game has revealed its console performance specs, and it reveals a very promising story. The game can run on native 4k resolution with Ultra Raytracing on PlayStation 5 Pro at 30 FPS. Other than that, both PS5 and Xbox Series X can run the game on upscaled 4k resolution with Raytracing at 30 FPS as well. Only the Xbox Series S cannot run the game with Ray Tracing and is limited to a 1080p resolution with 30 FPS.
The system requirements are also very reasonable, with the game only requiring a GTX 1060 GPU and an 8th-generation i5 processor or equivalent to run the game. The recommended requirements are also limited to an RTX 2060 GPU, which is more than reasonable in the current age of over-bloated system requirements, especially when the game’s stunning visual is taken into account. Hopefully, the game also showcases the promised performance at launch. Check more guides on Crimson Desert system requirements below:
