This Character Trait Will Greatly Impact Your Dragon’s Dogma 2 Experience

In Short
  • The size of the characters in Dragon's Dogma 2 tie into some of the game mechanics, including Stamina regeneration, travel speed, and weight limit.
  • Characters with shorter heights have slightly more combat advantage, while taller characters have slightly more out-of-combat advantage.
  • Shorter characters have faster stamina regeneration, and taller characters have slightly more travel speed, and higher weight limit.

Capcom’s master marketing strategy of releasing the Dragon’s Dogma 2 character creator before the game’s official release has worked wonders. Over the week up to the game’s release, every Dragon’s Dogma player has invested hours in building their Arisen and Pawns, some coming up with gorgeous characters, while others created abominations that hopefully won’t break the game. While veteran players of the franchise must be aware that the size of the characters could improve or worsen their performance and abilities, some new players might not be aware of it. You might want to revisit your character and edit some changes because size actually matters in Dragon’s Dogma 2.

Character size tying into the game mechanics is not something many developers do nowadays. Capcom however decided to go against the norm and tie the character size into the game mechanics, much like the first installment of Dragon’s Dogma.

The YouTuber Broomstick Gaming has done a thorough analysis with their pre-release copy of the game to find a relation between character size and in-game mechanics, while everyone else is busy talking about the performance issues.

The video clearly shows a clear difference in stamina regeneration, weight limit, and travel speed based on the character size. Here is a brief overview of the details observed in the video.

Shorter Characters have Faster Stamina Regeneration in DD2

There is good news for all the Short Kings, Queens, and little gremlins in Dragon’s Dogma 2. Shorter characters have a much faster Stamina Regeneration rate than taller characters, giving a massive combat advantage. Stamina is vital in combat and using Skills can quickly deplete it. Running out of stamina leaves the character vulnerable for a few seconds, which allows enemies to deal massive damage.

Taller Characters Travel Faster in DD2

Short characters have shorter legs and tall characters have longer legs. Normally there wouldn’t be a difference due to this in most other games, but DD2 is built differently. Taller characters cover large distances more quickly than shorter characters. Their speed might be the same, but the distance covered by the longer legs is more for the same speed.

Another benefit of using a taller character is getting more weight limit. Weight is a massive nuance in Dragon’s Dogma 2. Traveling heavy cuts the stamina regeneration rate by a lot and decreases the speed of the character significantly. So, traveling light is always the best choice in Dragon’s Dogma 2. Taller characters get more weight limits, allowing them to carry more essential stuff.

What’s the Best Size for Characters in Dragon’s Dogma 2?

There is no best overall size for characters in Dragon’s Dogma 2. Every size provides both advantages and disadvantages, so it all comes down to personal preference. Short characters have a big combat advantage with faster stamina regeneration, while taller characters have slight outside combat advantages with faster traveling and a bigger weight limit.

However, none of this really matters and it all comes down to what your vision of fantasy you want to fulfil. If you want to play as a giant wielding two-handed Warhammers, then you should do just that, and vice versa.
