In Short
  • In December 2025, Call of Duty's average concurrent player count sits around 50,000 players on Steam.
  • The game's peak player count in December was 80,145 players.
  • Call of Duty's active user count has been declining for the past three years.

When it comes to live-service titles, Call of Duty has been a consistent presence on the concurrent players charts for two decades at this point. Despite its annual release model, millions of players turn up every year to play the newest CoD, while the free-to-play Warzone offers an easy entry point into the shooter’s ecosystem. At its peak, Call of Duty: Black Ops III reportedly drew a peak user count of 54.5 million in 2018, but the numbers have since declined.

These days, Call of Duty’s popularity is in a much rougher state, with the franchise struggling to gain a foothold against juggernauts such as Fortnite and, more recently, Battlefield 6. Black Ops 7, for instance, is one of the worst-performing CoD entries in series history, barely moving the needle when it comes to player count. This begs the question: exactly how many players are playing Call of Duty in 2025? And if you’re looking for answers, we’ve got you covered.

According to Steam data, Call of Duty has an average concurrent player count of 50,502 players in December 2025. Its peak player count in December was around 80,145 users.

There are some important factors to remember while assessing these statistics. For starters, these figures reflect only the player base on Steam, and not the PC playerbase as a whole – a decent chunk still use the Battle.net launcher. Moreover, a majority of Call of Duty’s player base is concentrated on console platforms such as the PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S. Once you account for those users, Call of Duty’s average concurrent player count jumps into the millions.

Another very important factor to remember is that the aforementioned player count is for the Call of Duty launcher as a whole. And currently, it’s linked to three separate titles: Black Ops 6, Black Ops 7, and Warzone. This means that the figures aren’t solely linked to Black Ops 7, but instead, they include active users from all three games.

Call of Duty All-Time Peak Player Count

Call of Duty hit an all-time peak of 488,897 players on Steam back in November 2022. This jump in players was because November marked the CoD launcher’s arrival on Steam, as well as the release of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone 2.0. Thanks to a report, we also know that Call of Duty recorded 22.8 million users across all platforms in March of 2023, which remains its peak for the past three years.

Since then, CoD’s active users on all platforms have been declining. It started with a significant drop to 20.8 million users during the Modern Warfare 3 cycle, and a marginal decrease to 20.6 million users during the Black Ops 6 cycle. With BO7 performing much worse both critically and commercially, it’s safe to assume that the active users on all platforms have dropped even further.

Evidently, the franchise has been struggling to retain its playerbase, with a decent chunk of them likely migrating to either Battlefield 6 or the incredibly successful Arc Raiders. How Call of Duty plans to solve these issues remains to be seen.

And that wraps up everything you need to know about the Call of Duty player count in 2025. Are you playing Black Ops 7 regularly? Let us know in the comments.
