Call of Duty’s long-standing legacy of annual releases is all set to continue with the upcoming Black Ops 7. Developed by Treyarch, the title serves as a follow-up to Black Ops 2’s narrative, featuring some of the more futuristic elements of the franchise. Its integration with Warzone is sure to bring fresh content to the BR, including the possibility of a brand-new map at some point in the future. With the title’s gameplay reveal and deep dive behind us, we’ve put together a guide on everything to know about Black Ops 7, including its release date, pricing, and more.

Black Ops 7 will hit the shelves on November 14, 2025. This date makes it the latest release in Call of Duty history, edging out Black Ops Cold War by just one day. As per usual, the game’s release will be preceded by the Call of Duty Next event in September, followed by an Open Beta in October.

Black Ops 7 Platforms

Black Ops 7 will be available across these platforms:

  • PS5
  • PS4
  • Xbox Series X/S
  • Xbox One
  • PC (via Steam and Battle Net)

Activision are sticking with last-gen consoles as a launch platform, and it’s easy to guess why. Interestingly enough, Black Ops 7 will skip the Nintendo Switch 2, despite Microsoft’s 10-year legal agreement related to Call of Duty games appearing on the Switch.

Black Ops 7 Price & Pre-Orders

Following The Outer Worlds 2’s $80 pricing debacle, Microsoft are reeling in their ambitions for hiked game prices. As a result, Black Ops 7 is maintaining its base price of $70, with the Vault Edition costing $100. To learn more about pre-order and bonuses, be sure to check out our dedicated guide.

Black Ops 7 Story & Setting

As mentioned at the start, Black Ops 7 serves as a narrative sequel to Black Ops 2. The game is set in 2035, nearly a decade on from BO2’s events, and stars David Mason in the lead role. The world is at the brink of chaos once again, and somehow, Raul Menendez is back. The shadowy antagonist is confirmed to appear in the game, but it’s unclear whether he has been resurrected or is living on as a hallucination in David’s mind.

The narrative revolves around a weapon manufacturer named The Guild, which is an offshoot of the Avalon-based weapons trafficking group from Black Ops 6. Now led by CEO Emma Kagan, The Guild positions itself as the good guy of futursic surveillance and advanced arms manufacturing. As stated in their very own Forbes feature, “We don’t collect what we don’t need. Our systems are designed to safeguard, not surveil. Our mission is to protect when conventional safeguards fall short.”

Their vast arsenal of robotic defence machinery appears to be facilitating peacekeeping efforts around the world. But you get the sense that this is a synthetic veneer over a much more insidious organisation that David Mason and his JSOC team will be eager to unravel. The gameplay reveal trailer provided a glimpse at another crucial element of the story: the fear-inducing red toxic. When inhaled, this substance appears to trigger head-spinning hallucinations that players will have to make sense of throughout the game’s campaign.

Black Ops 7 Multiplayer Details

Multiplayer is receiving a major shake-up in Black Ops 7, thanks to a set of new features, tweaks to existing mechanics, and a fresh selection of maps. For starters, the game will release with a hefty pool of 16 6v6 maps and two large-scale 20v20 Skirmish maps. Classic maps from Black Ops 2, including Raid, Hijacked, and Express, will also be making their return.

On the features front, the Overclock System will be making its debut in the title, allowing players to level up Scorestreaks and equipment in some interesting ways. Every Scorestreak, Field Upgrade, and tactical or lethal equipment comes with two Overclock levels that can be unlocked by consistently using the item. For example, the first Overclock level for the Cluster Grenade lets you cook its fuse over a longer duration, while the second upgrade level adds an extra mini-grenade to the projectile.

To go along with the Overclock System, the devs are adding new cybernetic Scorestreaks, such as the quadrupedal D.A.W.G., which is armed with a turret and a rocket pod, and built for devastating infantry targets. Another new addition is the Rhino, a menacing robot soldier armed with a powerful Assault Rifle. Both Scorestreaks, along with every other Scorestreak in BO7, can be upgraded via the Overclock System.

Black Ops 7 will finally introduce a more intuitive way of sharing weapon loadouts, thanks to the Build Code feature, which reduces the process to a few simple inputs.

As for movement, Activision had already confirmed that jetpacks and wall-running will not be returning in Black Ops 7. The game features “an evolution of omnimovement,” complemented by the Wall Jump mechanic, which will let players “leap from surfaces for new ways to engage.” Furthermore, Tac Sprint is now gone by default, and you’ll need to unlock and equip a specific Perk to activate it.

The last major thing to touch on is post-launch content, with BO7 borrowing Modern Warfare III’s weekly challenges approach, and giving players something to grind for every week. Post-launch content is also said to be “plentiful,” meaning players should have enough reasons to keep returning for seasonal updates.

Black Ops 7 Co-Op Campaign

As stated by Activision, Black Ops 7 will offer a “thrilling and innovative” Co-Op campaign, allowing up to four players to experience it together. Solo players can still experience the campaign on their lonesome. But it’s important to note that there are no difficult settings in the campaign, and instead, difficulty will scale depending on the number of players.

Aside from protagonist David Mason, here are the other three characters players will be able to use:

  • Mike Harper
  • Eric Samuels
  • Chloe “Karma” Lynch

The campaign will lean hard into Call of Duty’s conspiratorial sci-fi elements, and take players to locations such as:

  • Los Angeles
  • Alaska
  • Nicaragua
  • Angola
  • Avalon
  • Japan

We’re now about to dip into spoiler territory, so here’s your warning. The campaign’s 12th and final mission will take place in the open-world Avalon map as part of a 32-player multiplayer experience. This will be a first for the franchise, and its format mirrors that of an extraction shooter. Aptly named ‘Endgame,’ you can find out more about the mission in our dedicated guide.

Black Ops 7 Zombies

No Black Ops game is complete without Zombies, and the reveal trailer confirmed that the beloved mode will be returning in BO7. It’s set to be round-based once again, and will feature the biggest Zombies map ever, with smaller Survival maps being rolled out post-launch.

The main map takes inspiration from TranZit and comes with a transport system to provide access to the six unique locations it’s made up of. Every location has its own unique visual elements and story. Transport back and forth from these locations is facilitated by the new ‘Wonder Vehicle.’ More details on the main map will be revealed in the coming weeks.

According to previous rumors, BO7 Zombies could be aiming to release six maps throughout its annual cycle, with maps set in Afghanistan, Vietnam, and a Dark Aether space station potentially on the cards. A post-WW2 map that shows New York in disarray following a Nazi nuclear detonation is also reportedly in the works. Of course, these details are yet to be confirmed, so take them with a grain of salt.

And that wraps up our guide on everything to know so far about Black Ops 7. We’ll be updating this article with new information as soon as it’s revealed, so make sure to bookmark it. And let us know if you’re excited for Call of Duty 2025 in the comments.
