Borderlands 4, the latest looter-shooter from Gearbox, is primed for release on September 12. The upcoming title will see the franchise transition from semi-open-world areas to a full-blooded open-world sandbox. This change, coupled with the jump to Unreal Engine 5, might make PCs sweat come September, but we’ll have to wait and see how the game fares on the optimization front. Until then, here’s a look at the official PC requirements for Borderlands 4 so that you can fine-tune your rig accordingly and prepare for launch.
Borderlands 4 Minimum System Requirements
- Processor: Intel Core i7 9700 / AMD Ryzen 7 2700X
- Memory: 16 GB
- GPU: Nvidia RTX 2070 / AMD RX 5700 XT
- VRAM: 8 GB
- Storage: 100 GB SSD
- OS: Windows 10/Windows 11 (64-bit)
Borderlands 4 Recommended System Requirements
- Processor: Intel Core i7 12700 / AMD Ryzen 7 5800X
- Memory: 32 GB
- GPU: Nvidia RTX 3080 / AMD RX 6800 XT
- VRAM: 12 GB
- Storage: 100 GB SSD
- OS: Windows 10/Windows 11 (64-bit)
Borderlands 4’s system requirements aren’t the mightiest when compared to other UE5 games, but they’re still quite hefty. In particular, the 8 GB VRAM and 8-core CPU requirements are definitely on the higher side. The game also demands 100 GB of free space and specifies the need for an SSD. This typically means that running the title on a standard HDD could result in abysmal loading times and delays in asset streaming.
With all that being said, the devs might just be covering their backs with what seem to be unusually demanding requirements. You’ll likely be able to run the title even if your rig sits just below the recommended specs. Of course, a lot hinges on how well the shooter is optimized, so keep your fingers crossed.
